Oversized “Ethnic” Necklaces: Trend for Less

May 26, 2009 07:00 AM | Comments (3) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyTrend for Less

Last year about this time, we noticed statement jewelry, aka super big, necklaces - as a top trend (some were so big, it was hard not to notice, which, we guess, was kind of the point). But we were careful to warn against overshadowing the rest of your outfit and yourself with a necklace that was just too big. But it seems that bigger could be better these days, especially when it comes to oversized “ethnic” necklaces. We still suggest that you don’t follow in the tiny footsteps of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and bury yourself in clothes and accessories that dwarf your body.

Look for Less: Paris Hilton

May 23, 2009 07:08 AM | Comments (1) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyTrend for Less

Even though she can be found skanking it up at a club, mysteriously showing up at a movie premier she has nothing to do with, sunning on the beach, or pretending to not notice the paparazzi as she shops in LA, from time to time Paris Hilton can rock a look. Here she’s sporting a dress that probably looks familiar to you -  you’ve seen this belted, tea dress more than a few times, but usually the sleeves are a lot longer and more fall and winter-friendly. But we like the shorter sleeves, especially as summer approaches. We’ve rounded up a few affordable lookalikes.

How to get this look ...

Victoria Beckham: Look for Less

May 21, 2009 06:59 AM | Comments (3) | Posted in Fashion+Beauty

Victoria Bekcham

Victoria Beckham is not really a t-shirt and jeans kind of gal - after all, she’s the “posh” one. However, from time to time, she does bust out a casual look that those of us not married to a handsome superstar soccer playing husband can pull out, like the look shown above, which is pretty achievable for the average fashionista on a small budget. It’s a laid back outfit that still is sexy as ever - notice how sheer, or better yet see-through her top is. (Wear an undershirt if you’re not feeling so bold.)

Trend for Less: Wide Leg Pants

May 20, 2009 07:00 AM | Comments (0) | Posted in Fashion+Beauty

Relax Fit Pants

We’re so excited that wide leg pants are in for spring, so we can stop wiggling into our skinny, and sometimes skin-tight, jeans and let our legs breathe for a little while. Not only are wide leg pants comfier than their tighter counterparts, but they also work well for those of us with extra junk in our trunk, by creating a straight line from our hips to our ankles.

Here are our best bets for reasonably-priced, wide leg pants.(And by wide leg we don’t mean frumpy sweat pants or parachute pants.)

Ruff Hewn Women’s Wide Waistband Pants, $28.69, from Bonton

Wide-leg trousers, $39, ...

Yea or Nay: 80’s Fashion

May 18, 2009 07:00 AM | Comments (6) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyYea or Nay

80s fashion

It’s not super surprising that 80’s fashion has made a comeback this year; every other decade has been brought back, so why not the decade of Rubic cubes and stirrup pants? The 80’s were full of easy to love and easy to make fun of fashions (hmmm, remember the crimp iron?). Can we gracefully bring back leg warmers, perms, hot pink pumps, over-sized earrings, acid wash jeans, blue eyeliner, or god forbid, denim on denim? We’re split over here (Kathryn does want her Conair crimp iron back).

80’s fashion - is this idea rad or just plain bad?

maid of honor

With all the planning and sometimes drama that goes into putting together a wedding, gifts for your wedding party is the last thing you want to worry about. And while it’s a good idea to give a gift to your attendants, you don’t have to spend a small fortune doing so. I stumbled upon this section online at Target, which is perhaps the only store that really gets how to do the whole high -low thing, that has a slew of affordable gift options for your wedding party, most under $20.

Here’s some of my favorites:

Forever 21 Plus Size Line ‘Faith21’ Now Available Online

May 7, 2009 07:14 AM | Comments (6) | Posted in Fashion+Beauty

faith21 forever21 plus size

What: Forever 21’s new plus size line (finally), called Faith 21, is now available online at forever21.com

Why You Should Care: Previously, the pickins’ at the budget fav was slim to none for those who wear a size 12 or higher. Now sistas with a bit more back (and front) can score the same fashionable finds as our slimmer friends. The drawback? The selection is small and the cut is Junior Plus Size, meaning the fit is 1 to 2 sizes smaller than the size you wear at a store like Lane Bryant.

Some of Our Picks

1. Botanical Floral Chiffon Blouse, $19.90
2. Floral Stain Evening Dress, ...

Fashion Trend: Floral Print Heels

May 6, 2009 07:00 AM | Comments (1) | Posted in Fashion+Beauty

Floral Shoes

What: Apparently, everyone’s adding a little spring to their step - with floral print heels.

What We Say: Floral prints in general tend to come and go, whereas floral print heels are a bit more timeless. They go with just about everything, though we suggest pairing them with solids, not other patterns. The rule of thumb is- the busier your shoes, the simpler the rest of your outfit should be - and vice versa. For those who are a little weary of this seasons’ floral print trend, flowery heels are a great, subtler alternative to printed blouses and dresses. We’ve got some affordable ...
