Asymmetrical Dresses: Trend for Less

June 15, 2009 06:04 PM | Comments (4) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyTrend for Less

One of the most popular trends this summer has been the asymmetrical dress. While this often translates to a one-shouldered dress or top, there are more creative styles than that - like varying lengths and patterns. We don’t like the dresses that are asymmetrical just for the sake of being asymmetrical. Everything’s gotta work together to create the perfect fashion statement.

We’ve got several asymmetrical dresses that you can nab for $100 and way under (not too shabby for quality trend-setting cocktail attire).

How to get the trend for less:

Eva Longoria: Look for Less

June 12, 2009 06:59 AM | Comments (0) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyTrend for Less

Eva Longoria Parker has had some hits and some sure-fire misses, but we straight out adore her dress from the Critic’s Choice Awards. We especially love that it’s not something only teeny tiny Eva could pull off - the banded waistline hides any sort of pooch. Although our alternative doesn’t sport the beautiful jeweled belt, it’s got plenty of room for you to breathe. And we actually think it’ll do more justice to your legs than the original.

We’re guessing Eva spent upwards of $1,000 on her version, so we found a version for the tax-refund-busting amount of $390 (yeah, we know, not ...

Michelle Obama Cardigans: Look for Less

June 9, 2009 07:08 AM | Comments (5) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyTrend for Less

Michelle Obama without a cardigan is like Superman without a cape, Lindsay Lohan without a tan, or Lady Gaga with pants (woops). Even if you’re not aiming for the First Lady’s conservative/sophisticated look, adding a few different cardigans to your wardrobe is a good idea. Not only will one add a splash of color to an otherwise plain dress or outfit, but it really comes in handy when the weather cools down at night or when the office AC is on blast.

Tip - Unless you’re rail thin, a cardigan will look most attractive on you if it’s not buttoned up all the way.

Here’s a nice selection ...

How to Shop Liquidation Sales

June 8, 2009 07:11 AM | Comments (1) | Posted in Fashion+Beauty

A by product of the recession is that many retailers are going out of business. While these “going-out-of-business-sales” can be a great way to scoop up deals, there can be some pitfalls. The July issue of ShopSmart, one of Kathryn’s favorite magazines, recently sent us tips for avoiding rip-offs and find real deals at liquidation sales:

Five Tips to Cash in on Liquidation Sales:

  * Comparison shop at local stores. Sometimes they will drop prices to compete with going-out-of business sales. If a liquidation price seems unbeatable, ask a rival retailer whether it can match it or ...

Fascinators: Trend for Less Budget

June 3, 2009 05:58 AM | Comments (3) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyTrend for Less

We love the fact that Fascinators, the “mini-hats” that are often attached to a head band adored with feathers, beading and other embellishments,  are everywhere this summer. According to it’s wiki article“The word originally referred to a fine, lacy head covering akin to a shawl made from wool or lace” and was used as an alternative to those big old hats ladies used to wear back in the day.  We give you the scoop on how to rock the fascinator trend on a budget.

Where to Wear A Fascinator
- To a Wedding. A very stylish alternative to the wedding hat. Also a great way to pick up men.. ...

May 27, 2009 07:00 AM | Comments (2) | Posted in Fashion+Beauty

Ikat print continues to be a major trend with pieces featuring the print popping up at every store from Forever21 to Macys to Saks. Ikat print isn’t to be confused with “African Print” - Ikat print involves the weaving of thread into a patterns, while African print usually involves the stamping/painting of a pattern on a piece of fabric.  When wearing an Ikat printed item, keep the rest of your outfit simple, as the print IS your signature piece.
