Luxury, once reserved for the richest members of our society, has gone mass market. Thank Target. Thank cable television. But most of all, thank the Internet.
In a recent New York Times article, Cathy Horyn wrote “If mass retailing has been transformed by the availability of better-designed products, like Michael Graves teapots at Target, class has been transformed by technology and a consumer who is as well informed as she is impatient to have the latest gaud. Half the purchases on Neiman Marcus’s Web site are by customers who do not live near one of its actual stores, said ...

It seems like everyone is wearing puffy jackets with a fur brimmed hood. I will probably never purchase one, because it looks like something my six-year-old niece would wear. However, for those of you who like the whole “recess” look, here is one, on sale, at Overstock.com.

The Isaac Mizrahi line at Target now goes up to a size 18 and XXL . . . Finally some love for fashionistas with butts.
Read MoreSo, I am shopping yesterday with my mother and my mother-in-law at the Jersey Garden Mall (we were just too lazy to head out to Woodbury). Jersey Gardens is a huge outlet mall located minutes from the Newark Airport and a block or two from the Elizabeth IKEA, the first IKEA in North America. I took them to Last Call Neiman Marcus, an essential store for fashionistas over 40, where we spent an hour and a half trying on 52 items (true!) between the three of us. Of course only seven of those items fit. It is almost like you have to try on 10 items just to find one that fits.

The key to shopping the garment district (from about 32nd to 39th St., 7th to 10th Ave) is walk east/west between the various avenues. On these “side streets” are ...

Read MoreI was all set to rave about the Karl Lagerfeld line at H&M, until I saw the above headline. K-Mart and SEARS merge, which I guess means that Land’s End also merges with K-Mart. So does this mean that Martha Stewart will be designing gingham covered tool boxes? The merge cost $11 billion dollars—10.9999 billion more than I have in the bank—which seems a little cheap for the merging together of two US shopping institutions.
