What are they best ways to keep makeup from running. I don’t like having to use powder round the clock to touch up. Any app. tricks or products I should be aware of?

Where do i get good makeup kit?

My best tip is to use mineral makeup rather than the traditional liquid kind (assuming you’re using foundation). I find it stays put and by extension, the rest of my makeup stays put longer as well. Also, a little concealer under eyeshadow/liner helps to keep things in place.

Also, some don’t like using waterproof products, but I like Maybellline’s Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner (around $6 at your local drugstore/beauty aisle) as well as their XXL Waterproof Mascara—neither are too heavy/gloppy and they stick around . . .

I’d love to hear anyone else’s tips as well, however!

Here’s what I teach my clients…

Start with skin care. Make sure that you are using a cleanser and moisturizer that are appropriate for your skin type. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you need to add a mattifyer and/or acne treatment before your moisturizer, which should be non-comedogenic. And by the way, if your makeup is running and not cracking or flaking off, chances are that your skin is oily, or at least is oiling up during the day, maybe because of summer heat.

When applying makeup, remember my rule of “less is more.” Always start with the tiniest dabs of makeup and then add more if you need to. As for what kind, you may be better off using powder or cream-powder versions of foundation, blush, bronzer, and shadow. By the way, Angela, I love mineral powder things too. I have a Mary Kay mineral powder bronzer that looks amazing.

If you are using something creamy, like eye pencil, make sure you set it with powder (I always apply liner first and then set it with my lightest powder shadow, and it lasts for hours). You do not need waterproof versions of any of these.

Be warned that while waterproof mascara lasts, it’s also drying, so you’re better off using it only if you absolutely need it, like for special occasions.

I don’t like those 8-hour lipcolors. They don’t really last that long, and they’re so drying. I suggest starting with lip exfoliation and lip balm. Before makeup, blot lips with a tissue. Fill your lips in with a neutral liner. Dab on one thin coat of lipstick and blot with a tissue. Dab on more lipstick and blot again. Dab on more lipstick and blot again. Finally, dab on a final coat of lipstick.

I hope this helps.

I find that if I am oily during the day I use oil blotters instead of reapplying powder. They are little tissue like papers that absorbs excess amounts of oil on your skin. I really like the ones by Bobbi Brown or Mary Kay. I am sure they are made by other brands too. Good luck!
