I was just wondering if there are any other adults out there like me who have acne prone skin?  my skin is super oily but it is sensitive to benzoyl peroxide (even after applying BPO in small amounts over a long period of time to adjust) so I’m constantly looking for the right treatment for it.  Right now I’m using the Proactiv Gentle 3-Step Program, but its just not doing the trick.  Anyone have a product that they swear by?

I have acne prone skin plus acne scars. I just wish I had had someone to show me how to take care of my skin when I was a teenager because then I might have avoided the scars.

Anyway, I’m 31 now, and I use Mary Kay Timewise Anti-Aging 3-1 cleanser, acne treatment gel, and moisturizer with SPF 15. I used to be sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, but the acne treatment gel has only 5% of that. Now, I can go out without makeup and not feel self-conscious about it (although I do wear makeup sometimes to look my best). In fact, I’ve gotten compliments on my skin.

Wow!  I wish I could get to the point where I receive compliments on MY skin!  Thats awesome that the MK treatment has been working for you.  Is it very expensive?  I think even 5% BPO would be too much for my skin to take, plus I hate the way it bleaches my towels and bed sheets!!  I’ve found that a combination of glycolic/salicylic acid (like Bioclear Lotion by Jan Marini Skin Research) does work, I just end up spending alot for it.  ($57.00 for a 1 oz. bottle!!!!)

First of all, I’m a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, and I wouldn’t feel right not using their products, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. Plus, even at regular retail, they’re not expensive (see my website: www.marykay.com/matik).

Second, I only use the acne treatment gel (the only product I use that has BPO) a few times a week, not every day. If I get a zit, I use it on the zit every day until it goes away.

Shampoo regularly. If you have oily hair, shampoo daily.

I agree with almost all of the above, but with shampoo… you have to be careful. Most shampoos are made with detergents that are the same or similar to those found in dishwashing liquids. Great for dishes, NOT great for hair or skin. They’re too drying, and acne-prone skin will only overreact to it. If you use shampoo at all, use only the gentlest shampoos and dilute them with distilled water.

One more thing to add- try to keep your hands off your face. There was a nurse who told me that our facial skin has a lot of bacteria on it, and every time we so much as scratch an itch, we’re digging the bacteria into the skin and allowing the bacteria to clog things up and cause pimples.

I used to have acne skins before I get married. I tried lots of expensive and cheap acne products - modern and alternative method (herbs). I also visited skin specialist but its still not working on me. Just before my wedding, when I am too worried about my look, its become worst. My sister advice me to stop putting any more chemical on my face and stop taking any herbs.

That is my last resort at that time. I just followed her advice, reduce stress,be more relax and amazing things is my face clear from any acne until now. I just wash my face with clean water and avoid to use heavy make up when going out. The only thing that I need to work out now is my acne scars. I have no ideas on how to remove it.

So if you have any solution, I want to know - but no chemical please!
