Good morning,

I’m new to these boards (but subscribe to the TBF e-mails) and have a dilemma.  We were invited to a Bar Mitzvah in June and the dress for the evening (at a hotel) is being requested as “Country Club Casual”.  What on Earth do I wear for that?  I can’t imagine they mean capris and a Polo shirt?  Help!

Ok so I did a bit of research because I too have not heard of that before.  I found out that it means “dressy casual” so for women...tailored pants or skirts, dressy sweaters etc.  I found this site (might be slightly out dated but its a good starting point http://tinyurl.com/3w7edb).  So I would go for something like these…

http://tinyurl.com/3wk6lu - I love the skirt/sweater combo...you can wear it again with jeans or white pants or a different top
http://tinyurl.com/4dldch - I love the white pants and you could totally wear that shirt with skinny jeans and heels for a night out
http://tinyurl.com/3fufa7 - You can never go wrong with a cotton dress with a wedge...always great!
Or do this shirt with a great black trouser!  http://tinyurl.com/4u574u

I just got these shoes and I have not had one blister and I can walk in them!  They would look great with a couple of those outfits! http://tinyurl.com/4nsakr

Good luck and I hope this helps!!

Be aware that if it’s a bar mitzvah, you’ll probably be better off wearing a skirt. Just don’t wear anything too short.

As for the formality, “country club casual” sounds like “dressy casual,” so other than the pants advice, I agree with Bellechic. Just go with a pretty, well-fitted skirt and a pretty top, or a chic dress. Do make sure that your shoes are nice as well as comfortable.

Thanks for your suggestions.  (Machazait - It’s a Reformed congregation, not Conservative, so I I’m ok with pants) but will probably do the skirt or dress route.  Thanks Again!

Whether it’s Reform, Conservative, or Orthodox, there probably will be some Jewish celebratory dancing, so for your protection, stick with closed-toe shoes. Take it from someone who once got a nasty “stab” in the toes from a stiletto heel that got too close.

And Mazal Tov!
