I’m from small town Indiana. Since I’m single and work in a retail store, I’m always looking for ways to make my money go far. I like to look good for everyplace I go (work, church, school, nightclubs, shopping, even errand running) but can’t afford to spend an arm and a leg.

Style for work is a challenge because of the dress code (royal or navy blue shirt, khaki pants/ jeans, no open-toe shoes).

Another style challenge for me is dress shoe shopping. Any shoes with even 1” heels kill my ankles in an hour but flats are getting harder to find.

Hi Miss Vicki and welcome to the forum! Please feel free to post questions and advice—we look forward to hearing from you! (and for flats, I’m finding the cutest ones at Old Navy right now!)

I found the simplygoodmedia family of blogs by websearching the word “frugalicious”, which was earjacked from an earlier report on the Today Show. It lead to a link to The Budget Fashionista as well as the men’s component, See Jack Shop.

Am here to learn & absorb as much as I can to live fabulously within means. Isn’t what that it’s all about come 2009 and beyond?

Hi, Stacie.  I’m a mature newbie, but your site has been on my Favorites list for a couple of months.  Looking forward to exchanging tips with young and mature women.

hi!  i’m new here, of course.  and like the rest of you i love clothes!  and shoes, handbags, jewelry, etc.  i especially like playing with color.

the amount of apparel i own would sicken some people, and even surprises me sometimes.  lately i’ve been digging deep into the folds trying to re-purpose and re-discover some lost wonders—using them in different ways.  but of course i am still shopping and keeping my eyes open for new (or used) good items.

i’m in retail management, not the exact fashion road i wanted to take, but the ride’s been steady so far.  i’d love to explore other facets but haven’t found the right time or place yet.

this seems like a place where i’ll fit right in and be able to share some fashion excitement when others just don’t seem to get it.

Greetings everyone. I’m a fifty-something self-employed professional who is single-handedly putting her kids through school (think four MIT/Stanford sized tuition payments x four years, all within a seven year period.  I’m in year two right now.).  I spend less in a year for my clothes/accessories/shoe repair than many people I know spend in a single shopping trip—and that’s just for a few higher-end but not absurdly expensive accessories!  I have a pretty good core wardrobe of classic, basic pieces that I like. I just finished reading, from cover to cover, “The Budget Fashionista,” which I borrowed from the library of course.  That book is full of so much great advice! I have almost zero diiscretionary income, but I do allow myself the occasional key piece or quality accessory (almost invariably purchased at a nice consignment store or charity thrift), if it’s particularly great value and I love it.  I’m thrilled to have found this site and this group. I look forward to learning, and to sharing whatever I know or learn elsewhere that may be of interest and use to the group.
