Hi newbie Kelliblue here!

I found this site while desperately trying to find out whatever happened to alt.fashion, a former Usenet discussion group I used to visit a LOT.  Seems like it’s dying if not dead, so I wanted a place to ask questions or talk about fashion…especially for those of a more ‘rubenesque’ nature. :)

So…hi all!  :)

Hi everyone,

New to the boards and the site. What a great resource!  I’ve never been a fashion follower, but still like to look good. This site helps me find deals and get ideas without having to work too hard for them - just the kick in the pants I needed!  Plus, I’ve just lost about 35 pounds and need to replace my wardrobe.

And having said that, I have to reveal that my current “wardrobe” is truly pitiful.  I literally have just a handful of clothes that I wear over and over and all of them are now way too big.  We’re talking about 3 pairs of pants and about 5 tops, a couple pairs of shoes.  And that’s it!  Am I the anti-girl, or what!?  Lol.

So now that I’ve lost this weight and shopping is actually fun again, I’m just starting to build a real wardrobe from the ground up.  At age 42, it’s about time I start dressing better, don’t you agree?

Looking forward to chatting with y’all!

Valerie

Hi Digigirl and welcome to the forum! Congrats on the weight loss success—I’d suggest you look at Kathryn’s advice for rebuilding your wardrobe here. And also feel free to start threads for advice, and dish some of your own . . .

Hi, I’m Penny. I took a few years off of work and one day realized I was living in sweats every day so I made a goal to improve my wardrobe and what I wear. I love a real bargain and have been doing more thrift, consignment and outlet shopping. I also run a decor blog http://darkstyleblog.blogspot.com

Hello all.My name is Dianne and by luck,I found this place.I am on a budget when it comes to buying clothes and accessories and such. Please don’t laugh, but my favorite place to shop is actually Goodwill.I have found some really interesting finds.I am always on the hunt for a vintage Chanel bag or a Pucci scarf. It can happen because my friend had found a Pucci scarf in mint condition.I am always looking for vintage Tupperware too.I also love flea markets and havent ventured out on to Estate sales yet.
I am married to a Marine and have been since 2002.I look forward in making new friends here.

Hi Dianne, and welcome to the forum! We would never laugh at a Goodwill shopper, as that’s one of our favorite budget shopping haunts as well!

Hi!  I’m Marianne from Delaware and home of tax-free shopping.  Too bad this feature has previously been wasted on me.  I should probably inform you that I am not, at this point or at any point in my past have I ever been, a fashionista.  I’m more of a fashion reader.  I cannot count how many copies of Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Lucky I have distributed in different places around my home.  I’m addicted to Project Runway.  But I have the hardest time shopping.  As a result, while I am watching these programs and reading these magazines I am often wearing the same jeans and sweater combo year in and year out envying friends of mine who have that graceful knack of putting an outfit together that is so seamless….so them…and let’s face it, so darn attractive.  I want this gift, but I am lost.  Well, I was lost, until Kathryn Finney provided me with a compass with her wonderful book,  The Budget Fashionista.  I don’t remember how I found the book….it’s a blur…it’s as if it were destiny.  Slowly, but surely, things are coming together (again, very slowly….I’m typing this in jeans and a sweater right now.)  But I could not be more grateful for the service that Kathryn and associates have provided with the book and this site.  Thank you dearly.
