Upscale Beauty Lines at Target?

Target is my mecca for budget beauty products—great selection, great sales—but according to Women’s Wear Daily, Target is starting to bring in upscale beauty lines at upscale prices. Bare Escentuals, for example, can be purchased at some Targets, which sounds great—except the prices match the line’s normal retail prices.

Sure, variety is great, but my question is this—what’s the point? How do you feel about these upscale products on Target shelves for the same prices as at the department store beauty counter?

Well, there is probably a Target closer to most people’s houses than a department store beauty counter.  And most people probably shop at Target more...so at least there’s convenience and gas savings!

That is a good point Classique—if Target’s looking to provide more convenience to bring customers in, then it makes some kind of sense. But what about their rep as a retailer focused on saving their customers money? Hmmm.

I have noticed Target trying to expand in many areas for some time.  Furniture, wedding dress, etc etc.  Personally I’m happy about them expanding in to other avenues as long as I can still pick up my budget items.  In a perfect world, all my products would be budget however I have to admit I have a few higher end products that I can not live without. I use what works for me and if I can save a trip to the department store for one item that Target will carry then I’m all for it.  Don’t get me wrong though, I happen to like the department store counters which you can sample the products prior to buying but I don’t see Target going down that road.
