For some girls, prom night is their first real dress up event, meaning they don’t have a lot of experience with the kind of makeup that goes with it. My advice? The same as for any evening look—pick a focal point (either eyes OR lips) and stick with it—smokey eyes and nude lip, or bold lip and understated eyes. Doing this keeps you from being overdone (meaning looking like you’re ready to step on the pageant stage at any moment . . . )

Anyone else in the know have some sage makeup advice for prom-goers this season?

When choosing a dress, go with a color that really flatters you. When you’re wearing a color that brightens your eyes and clears your complexion, you’ll find that you need less makeup to look your best.
