Hi ladies, It’s autumn here in Sydney, and I’m trying to clear out my wardrobe. I have a few coats 2 sizes two big (my mum bought them for me a few years ago and she tends to buy big). I’m debating whether or not I should give them away. They are warm coats, but because they’re so big, I’m not excited about wearing them out. On one hand, I have my nice fitting trench coat. On the other hand, there are some planned trips to New Zealand (colder) in the next few months, and I don’t want to spend more on coats. Admittedly, I still need to buy a proper fitting wool coat for winter (in Sydney).

What should I do? Mmm, maybe eBay might be an option....

My advice would be to try and sell them on eBay or… have them tailored (depending on the price- a rule of thumb is that tailoring shouldn’t cost more than 25% of it’s regular retail price- unless it’s a heavily discounted item)

I agree with looking into getting them tailored.
If not, then I’d sell them. There’s no sense in wearing something that’s going to make you feel like a tank! I’ve sold things on ebay, and it’s kind of a hassle. It might be just as worth it to either give it over to a consignment shop or to a charity where you’ll get a tax credit.

Wow, I’ve never actually thought about getting my coats tailored. Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll definitely bring them in to try to get altered.

I’m big on donating things. There’s plenty of folks who don’t have warm coats and could use it. If there’s one you really like, get that one tailored and donate the other one. (Of course, if you really like both, then keep them.) Keep in mind, depending on where you live, you may be able to get tax credit for charitable donations.

You can try to sell them online, then you can use the money to buy form-fitting coat you can wear for years. As for the New Zealand trip, you can wear your trench coat, but pack a few thin but warm sweaters to be worn underneath.

I like the idea of tailoring your coat , though. Recently I changed the buttons of my 3 year old black coat and it suddenly look brand new again.
