Long Sweaters - Toss them?

After a few years of having to wear suits to work, I now have a job where I can wear business casual.  I have a couple of long sweaters, calf-length, from several years ago.  I’m not a fad dresser or fashion fanatic, but I don’t want to look totally out of date.  Should I be giving these to charity?  ETinLV

if you don’t want them anymore, you can give them to charity. i’m sure some underprivileged person will love to have your old sweaters.

My question is, if I wear the long sweaters will I look hopelessly out of fashion.  I know I can donate them, but should I or should I wear them?

My vote would be to get rid of them. I’ve found that when I’m unsure of an outfit, that most likely means it’s not going to work. If you’re not sure about a sweater and wear it, you’ll appear less confident (because that’s how you feel), too.

Have you checked eBay to see if any similar sweaters are selling on there? That’s always an option too.

Can you try wearing the long sweaters belted w/ leggings? Not sure your age or size but know that this look has been in. Personally I can not wear this look b/c I am too old and have a bigger figure.

Can you accessorize them differently?  If you still love them but are not sure how to make them work why not keep one in a neutral tone and experiment with new colors and jewelry.  If the sweater is belted, remove it and replace it with a colorful silk scarf or simple black ribbon.  Good luck!

Shoelover, I agree that belted with leggings would be the best bet for updating (as budget fashionistas, we’re all about updating what you’ve already got!)—however, the cut will make or break it—if they’re very boxy/voluminous it might still look dated. And if they happen to have shoulder pads—they need to go far, far away . . .
