I agree with all of the fashion experts who say that every woman needs a suit in her wardrobe. A suit is a no-brainer for those occasions when you need to look professional, powerful, and authoritative. However, what’s the difference between a “real” suit vs. a jacket and coordinating bottom sold separately?

1) A “real” suit tends to cost much more than suit separates, so going with separates can often save a lot of money.

2) Suit separates allow for easier fit, especially if you wear different sizes on top and bottom. If that’s the case, then a “real” suit may need more alterations for fit, which will add to the price.

Not that there’s anything wrong with having a “real” suit, but separates are a great option. If you wear your suit separates with confidence, no one needs to know that you’re not wearing a “real” suit.

I so glad you posted this!  A couple of years ago I finally had to buy a professional suit…however being a different size on the top and bottom it was getting REALLY frustrating!  So I finally ended up buying separates and have felt that I somehow cheated because it was just way to easy and a lot cheaper!!  Thanks again.

I almost felt that we cheated when we had to buy a suit for my husband. Since our budget is so tight, we agreed to buy suit separates. JCPenney had a great sale, and we found a great blazer and dress pants. With the sale prices, plus my coupon, we got a suit for $89. Usually, a suit costs us over $200 before alterations. And the quality is comparable to the suits at menswear stores.
