I’m sure this has probably been covered before—perhaps multiple times—but can someone help me figure out what SPECIFICALLY constitutes ‘cocktail attire?’  I received a wedding invite today from a friend, and it’s a great excuse to run out and buy a new dress (it’s for an Satirdau evening wedding in NYC!)  so I need details!

Help, please.

Cocktail attire can be confusing…this article is pretty good at explaining it:  http://fashion.about.com/od/specialoccasions/f/specialoccasion.htm

Here are some options:

Hope this helps!  Remember black is always acceptable but a little color during this season is always more fun!  Happy shopping!!

I think “cocktail attire” means that you should wear something pretty and dressy, but not a formal gown. Something knee-length would be fine. Black is safe, but color works great too. You can wear white as long as it’s the background for a non-white print. Just make sure that it fits well and makes you look and feel amazing.

When I think cocktail attire I think of something short, flirty, still very dressy in colors or fabrics that are a bit more fun.  Definitly not a full length dress.  It’s great opportunity to try something a little different.  Have fun!
