Does anyone have a suggestion for a good foundation for dry, sensitive skin? I'm looking for something that doesn't feel caked on, goes on smooth and covers well (that's not too much to ask, right??). I'm willing to pay more money for foundation, if it works. I've recently tried Lorac (HATED it), Bare Minerals (dried my skin out even more) and Isa Knox (too hard to find) with no luck. I refuse to order anything on the internet because I'm never happy with the product and then I have to deal with returning it, etc.

I've considered custom blended foundation, I think perscriptives does it… anyway curious if they match your skin tone as well as your skin type or needs?

I swear, trying to find the right foundation is like trying to find the Holy Grail for me. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

My mother swears by the Boots moisturizing foundation (available at Target). It's not custom blend, but it does keep her skin hydrated and looking pretty fab…

Several of my MUA friends actually purchase different shades of drugstore brands like boots and custom blend them themselves, adding a little sun screen..

I did well with TruBlend by CoverGirl. It wasn't heavy & looked very natural. If you go to their website they even have a link to find steals/deals in your area.

I also came across this site & thought you may find it of interest...http://www.clairesbeauty.com/?cat=8

Good Luck!

If you like sheerer color, then try Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer or Skin Alison Rafaele Tinted Moisturizer. For something a little heavier try elf's all over cover stick, its supposed to be really good, and if it isn't your shade, its only a dollar. Also, try a liquid foundation which doesn't say oil free and blend some moisturizer in… Thats what I sometimes do with really dark shades of lippie....

I splurged on Laura Mercier recently...the oil-free tinted moisturizer...and after some experimentation with my Benefit Stick Concealer I have found the right coverage for my combination skin. The folks at Sephora or Nordstrom's are pretty good about assessing what kind of LM product would be best for you.

I do think that the drugstore brands like Revlon are making great strides in color-matching. I think that Revlon now has primers like the prestige brands do.

I would try Sephora because they aren't pushing a particular BRAND so they can suggest something best suited to your needs.

also try prepping your skin with some veggie oil, like sweet almond or jojoba or olive… Let it soak in for like a couple of minutes. I swear it doesn't make you break out… It can really help with how moisturizing your foundation and helps foundation go on much smoother - along with a good exfoliating regime, 1 or 2 x a week… Try splashing your face with cool water before and then use some oil, and it works awesome…

Also veggie oil is dirt cheap compared to really luxe moisturizers, and is very luxe and natural…

I have to rep MAC too, because their tinted moisturizers are fab… And the shades always match. If you get regular foundation that doesn't moisturize enough, use a thin lotion moisturizer or some water or veggie oil…

Also check out delush.com for makeup reviews… They are awesome… They have this one option called "Splurge of The Month", they are really selective as to what they pick, so you may find some awesome foundation there… Also Totally Delush, is pretty awesome as well…

Thanks for your suggestions. I was actually really frustrated with Sephora because although they took back the Lorac foundation that didn't match my skin at all, I felt like both girls I talked to there had no idea what I really needed. I'm very willing to give it another try, due to the fact that they will return makeup with no questions asked. And I always forget that Target has such good makeup. Might have to start there first.

I recently bought camelia oil as a moisturizer and have been having good luck with it. I've read that essential oils are supposed to be amazing moisturizers.

I think I'll tackle the makeup stores this weekend… wish me luck!

I DO wish you luck...this shouldn't be so hard but sigh...it is. Sorry you had a bad experience with Sephora...I have always heard positive things about their customer service...maybe they were having an off day. When I have asked questions of the staff there if they couldn't answer my question they did know who on duty could. Courage!!

I recommend DHC’s Velvet Skin Coat. This little miracle in a tube is an awesome base for foundation to smooth over. It’s also great for just wearing all by itself.

I have combo skin, my husband extremely dry skin. We both use this clear product daily and love it. It’s very affordable and gives a great matte polished look to skin. It smooths on, not greasy cakey or white. Just smooth and luscious finish to the skin.

DHC also has moisturizing products for dry skin....which if your skin is well fed may alleviate some of the foundation issues you’re experiencing.  I have very sensitive skin and understand how trying it is to pay good $$$ to try something out only to be disappointed or worse, have a bad reaction.  Sephora is GREAT about making samples of products for a multi-try before buying, which is awesome.

Good luck, and keep trying til you find your perfect fit!
