This is not an especially ORIGINAL suggestion but Suave hair and body products are really a good alternative to even the least expensive shampoos, body creams, and bath products.

House brands at Target and other stores also seem to do fine in this category.

Does anyone have any suggestions of EXCEPTIONAL good House Brand/Generic products that are good alternatives to the more expensive brands? Or warnings on particularly INFERIOR generics? It's never a bargain if you buy something cheap and then have to throw it out!

Cheers!

I also love the Suave Brand of shampoos, conditioners, and body washes. I don't do anything particularly special to my hair, so I don't need specialized conditioners. I also like Vo5 conditioners and shampoos. Suave and VO5 have great fruity and floral scents. CVS' brand version of Vaseline Intenisve Care body lotion with Vitamin E rocks! It's thick, soothing, and lasts a long time. I've been using it for nearly 2 months.

Suave's brand of body lotions are hit are miss. I like my lotions to feel and be thick. Sometimes, Suave's scented lotions can be a little thin.

If you or a friend is in the military or a retired military person, their PX has great military generic products at really low prices. Everything from vitamins to shampoos!

If you have a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods near you, check out their
bath & body lines (Trader Joe's & 365, respectively). Unlike Suave, et. al.,
there's not much scent variety (if any), but if you like them, they're
very budget-friendly. If not, both stores have great return policies if
you don't like their products.

TJ's: Extra Moisturizing hand lotion (~16 oz. for ~$3)
Peppermint Castille soap (~16oz. for $3)
Mango Moisture shave (~6 oz. for $3.50, and lasts 4-eva)

Whole Foods 365: Their shampoos, conditioners, and body washes are 16 oz for $2 each.

I love Suave shampoo's. I actually wrote them and thanked them for stretching my budget when I was out of a job and had to look presentable at interviews. I wish I could get a shampoo of that quality for a dollar here in Norway! The cheapest here is Sunsilk (about $4.7 per bottle in Norway).

I actually LOVE Sunsilk. I need volume & their line works great for me!

I like the Suave bodywash line. As for the shampoos it is a hit or miss with me. I like Alberto V05 Hairspray & Volumizing Mousse & I like Tresemme Volumizing Mousse as well. They are also priced really well!

I love the smell of Suave but I find that if I use it I end up itchy. I wish my skin wasn't sensitive. My favorite conditioner is Fructis sleek and shine Deep conditioning hair mask. Its around 4 bucks. I can usually make it last a month.

Thanks for saving me some money ladies! I was ready to buy Suave shampoo for my husband until several of you said it was not good for folks like him with sensitive skin. He is currently using Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo which is nice for his fine hair, not so nice at $9 for 8.5 ounces. We live in a WholeFoodsfree zone so I am looking for something I can pick up at Longs, Rite Aid or K-Mart. Appreciate your help!
