We have a topic going about what you should *never* wear. But what about what fashion staples—pieces that are universally flattering, that you can wear without ever having to worry whether you can pull it off?

Let's compile a list on this thread.

I think black wool pants cut to flatter. If they are a wide leg, then they can flatter miss skinny minnie on the runway and everyother miss in america as well.
A really great sweater in a nice charcoal or black with a v neck, shouldn't be too tight or loose, but curve skimming.
A pair of tan/black slides with a kitten heel I think are flattering for all.
A wrapdress in black, it looks great on almost anyone. Accentuates curves, while slimming. I have one made out of matte jersey that is stain proof, and wrinkle proof, so I always wear it when travelling in summer. I look polished and classy, as opposed to the woman wearing pink Juicy sweats on my left. Mine was probably less expensive than hers, since I got mine at winners for 50. Considering it covers top and bottom, the price isn't half bad and i think it is a designer…
A single breasted wool coat at mid thigh.
A really well cut red dress, if you have bluer/pinker skin you can try a different red, if you have yellower/olive skin you can try another one.
A nice a-line skirt. Unline pencil skirts which only flatter a handful, an a line skirt balances pear shaped figues and really flatters almost everyone.
A blazer, I find that motocross style jackets can broaden the shoulders, certain jackets can push down the chest, and be loose at the tummy, creating an unflattering shape. A blazer if buttoning under the chest and at the proper place on the stomach, can create a very feminine shape.
