Michelle Obama took a fashion risk on election night with her black and red Narciso Rodriguez dress. Now, we love Mrs. Obama’s style, and while this dress is kinda edgy and cool, we’re not sure it is the most flattering choice for her . . . what do you think?

I think that the dress would have looked better if she had not worn the shrug over it….alot of the detail was in the shoulder straps.  Plus she has fabulous arms!

That wasn’t my favorite, too much black and not enough red.  And it didn’t accentuate her figure, it made her look wide and blocky.  However she is bold and I like that about her.  I like her in lighter colors, like this:

She’ll be a lot of fun to watch for the next four years!

I love her style, especially the big pearls she wears, but I hate this dress.  Maybe it was pretty in person, but it was awful on TV.  She looked pregnant, and like she had been spattered with red paint.  Yuck!

I have to agree with you.  I kept watching the dress and not Michelle.  Now that she is in the BIG public eye, she can use fashion to aid in protraying her, not the other way around.  My eyes were trying to focus on her and they kept reverting to the “design?” on the black background of the dress.  The camera images made me recall the markings of the black widow spider.  Pres. - Elect Obama sticks with the classic white shirt, dark suit and conservative tie.  His appearance never detracts fromj his message. Men’s choices in life and in fashion are so much safer than for us women!  Bottom line, Michelle is a classic beauty no matter what she wears!

I have REALLY enjoyed watching the “fun” and “frivolous” part of the election campaigns : the clothes ! All the women proved that sticking to a certain silhouette/formula, worked.

For Mrs. O, it was mostly chic, sheath dresses. And it HURTS ME to say this…..the only sartorial misstep I felt she made ( in two years of campaigning ) was that Narsciso dress.  ( There I said it.)  Even my husband, who rarely notices anything, asked me on Tuesday night, ” What does Michelle have on ? Is it some sort of apron thingy ?”

When I saw the dress on the very skinny, flat-chested model, it was really pretty - apparently the dress looks best hanging.  But Mrs. O is a REAL woman who is not built like that, so it was a bit unflattering. Though her girls looked FABULOUS !  I can say, though, that the personality, the self-confidence, the make-up,  and the moment made her dress tolerable.  My conclusion : I look forward to the next 4-8 years of White House style. I plan on learning allot.

And though I also enjoyed both Sarah Palin and Cindy McCain’s style, it exhausted me. I would be exhausted trying to put my hair up all the time or having perfectly coordinating everthing. Maybe that is why I really Like Michelle’s style ( even her mistakes ) : they seem real and attainable to me.

I love Michelle Obama’s style and everything I have seen her wear, except that dress. It wasn’t awful but it looked odd on camera. The black portions created an odd blocky appearance that made her look chunky and it was a bit distracting. I still want that dress she wore on The View though.

I don’t think that dress was the right cut for her and the black/red combo was distracting.

She does have nice style otherwise and I like the fact she takes risks.

I loved it!!!

Thought she looked FABULOUS - As well as her girls…

...Did ya notice that one of them was dressed in black and the other in red to coordinate with their Mom’s outfit?

I usually love whatever Mrs. Obama wears but I thought the dress was not a good choice - it was TOO distracting . . . my eyes kept going back to her dress and I didn’t, couldn’t, concentrate on what Mr. Obama was saying (I had to read it the next morning). When I was in Drama School, we were told never to “steal the scene” from the lead, i.e., excessive/inappropriate movement, ad-libbing, or dressing to call attention - Mrs. Obama did just that.
