Hi Floridagirl! I’m originally from Detroit but lived in Florida for a few years, so I definitely grasp your problem! Let me make one thing clear—Michigan and Canada with average temps in the low 30s means you will be very cold. Don’t underestimate it, believe me!
That being said, a black puffy parka will probably be your best defense, especially since it sounds like you’ll be taking part in fairly casual activities (otherwise I’d suggest a wool peacoat or something comparable).
My best suggestion beyond that is: layering layering layering. It’s how we all survive up there—if you have some light pullover or cardigan sweaters, layer them with long sleeve tees (or just layer a couple of longsleeve tees one over the other), and consider picking up a set of lightweight long underwearfor the football game especially (you may want to wait ‘til you get there, since you’ll likely have to purchase online if you’re going to get any at all while you’re still in Fla.). And while I lived in Florida I NEVER wore socks, but you’ll have to—and pick up a cute (inexpensive) pair of boots to get you through (just check out Walmart, Target, Payless so you don’t spend a fortune—and maybe wait ‘til your there on that one as well, for a better selection).
Also, a great set of thick knit gloves with hat and scarf are godsends and can look supercute, too (Target’s my favorite source). Get a fun color to liven things up (especially if your parka is black), and bundle up in various combinations, depending on your activity and the mercury readings . . .
Hope that helps!
