Not that I’m surprised . . . the wheels of change turn slowly, if at all, in the fashion world. Read more in this Reuters article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080912/lf_nm_life/fashion_models_dc  and peruse the gallerys at Couture.com and Style.com of this season’s shows to see for yourself. What will it take to change things?

How many black runway models are there? Is it really an issue of discrimination or is it also about less black faces to showcase? I can see Rubin saying that people said his show was “too ethnic” is definitely code for too many non-white women and that is just sad.

I doubt they’ll change. Why should they? There are no incentives to do otherwise. People of color aren’t the biggest buyers of high fashion so as long as they can still get their lines seen by the right people and purchased by enough people things won’t change. People of color are still the minority so unless you’re Italian Vogue selling a sold out magazine issue no one will benefit from change so there will be no change.
