In thinking about my top fashion tip, I decided not to go with “never pair plaid with stripes,” as tempting as it was. I considered the unsaid comments attached to the just barely hidden gawking of surprise at people’s wardrobe choices. It turned out that most of the time, the message I wish I could convey to these “offenders” (in as polite a way as possible) is this: Everyone’s body looks better in clothes that fit properly. You know those crazy kids dressed in outrageous combinations of colors and patterns and silhouettes, who may seem to be breaking all of the cardinal fashion rules? Sometimes they can look the most effortlessly chic of us all. The girl in the too-short skirt, or the too-loose blouse, however, is a different story. I believe that people of all different sizes, shapes, and styles are beautiful. The quickest and best way to look great in your clothes is to make sure that they’re the right size; one shouldn’t be overflowing from any type of tight clothing, nor should one be swimming in a sweater two sizes too large. Embrace who you are, and let your clothes hug your body just the right way.
