In the infamous words of the legendary designer, Coco Chanel, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
Since Ms. Chanel uttered her insightful advice, women and aspiring fashionistas have wondered one simple thing--- Can an aspiring fashionista be fashionable, while remaining true to Chanel’s advice? The answer is, of course!

Here are a few words of advice from a former fashion editorial assistant/intern on how to look classy and fabulous, while still staying fashionably relevant: (Fashion clueless beware, this may sting a little)

* When in doubt, keep it simple. If you’re looking at metalic, print leggings, fringe boots and a sequined mini as an outfit, true fashionistas every where will look at you as if the Fashion Gods have chewed you up and spit you out!
---> Instead, try a simple mini dress-- solid color, and pair it with a colorful, trendy Botkier bag or a pair of those trendy Manolos you were eyeing on sale rack. Simply put, you will look classy, but will also stay fashionably relevant at the same time.

* Work with your assets. Now, this can be read wrong. What I really mean to say is wear clothes that look good with your body type. For example, if you’re like ShoeGal, you are petite and curvy. So, don’t be afraid of your assets-- work with them, and show them off.
---> ShoeGal wears dresses that are fitting (but not too tight) and take the attention away from her tummy (hey, we know we need to hit the gym more!) and bring it up towards her face. If you’re tall and slender, play it up with some classic Seven skinny jeans, strappy sandals, fitted tank and beaded necklace. You get the picture?

* Wear your clothes with confidence. Nothing says you’re oh-so unfabulous like a woman who looks uncomfortable in her outfit. If you’re not comfortable wearing the super-short micro mini, then DON’T, I repeat, DO NOT wear it!
---> Instead, invest in some classic, fitted sun dresses for the summer, or sweater dresses for the fall. Some designers this ShoeGal loves are: J.Crew, Anne Taylor, Karen Millen and Nanette Lepore. They allow her to buy affordable, classy dresses that she can pair with big necklaces, bangle bracelets and make her feeling fabulous-- even while she’s at work!

* When in doubt, ask someone you trust. If your friends are like this fashionista’s friends, they would never let her leave the store with something that makes her look less than fabulous!!

And remember, you will look fabulous if you stay true to Chanel’s words. A classy woman is always fabulous!
