My number one fashion tip sounds sort of like an inspirational poster you might see on the walls of a high school gymnasium in the Eighties, under a picture of some Jane Fonda looking woman in leg warmers - BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. I’d be shocked if there isn’t already a hair band with a song that has this title. I swear I can hear Journey singing it now…
Enough about the Eighties....and auditory hallucinations. Let’s be serious though. If you are not in love with your outfit and the way you look in it, how can you expect anyone else to be? Do you think Mary-Kate Olsen leaves the house in her top hat and Balenciaga heels, stops in the mirror and thinks, “Maybe this is too weird just to wear to Starbucks”? Absolutely not. Being truly fashionable is about knowing what looks good on your and sticking to your guns. Last summer, I worked in a small boutique as a sales associate/personal shopper, and found that my customers were way more likely to buy something from me if it were one of the items in the store that I was legitimately obsessed with. I was able to sell the item better because it was something I believed in on my own personal accord. Think of your outfits in the same manner that I used as my approach to sales - if you don’t believe in it, no one is going to buy it. Think less about trends or constantly changing your look, and think more about what inspires you. When you find your own personal taste, you will be able to dress passionately and with conviction, and leave the house every single day fully believing in the work of art you chose to wear!
