Tootsies (when they’re cute), dogs (when they hurt), boats (when they’re big), talons (when they…um…need trimming), a foot by any other name is just as sore at the end of the day. As we near the end of summer it is time to take stock of the damage we’ve done to our feet. I’m talking about the excessively cute heels you just had to wear with that cute summer dress. Oh yeah. You worked it. You dominated the dance floor, and your date? He’s so calling back. But your poor tootsies paid the price. Blisters, corns, bruises…all a consequence of bare feet in shoes. So as you sit on your tub and contemplate the mulch you’ve made of your babies…never fear. No corn, no blister, no calloused edges are beyond a little homespun TLC. My personal favorite? The tea tree/lavender soak. This magical recipe combines the toxin-drawing effects of Epsom salt, the antiseptic goodness of tea tree oil and lavender’s delicious smell plus its bonus ability to soothe aches and pains.

Warm water*
Half a cup of Epsom Salts

Add the following essential oils:
2 drops of Lavender (many supermarkets or specialty grocery stores)
3 drops of Tea Tree Oil (available at most drug stores)

To maximize the affects, after a good soak, use 2 tlbsps honey and ¼ cup of either kosher salt or oatmeal (depending on how much of a “scrub” you want) to create a moisturizing foot scrub for those hard edges. Now go ahead and admire your feet, newly revived and soft and ready for another night out!

* I often add other aromatics like rosemary, peppermint, sage or thyme just to treat my other senses.
