Yes, wallet-willing, who wouldn’t spring for a Tods tote and Marc Jacobs dress?  But let’s be honest here, most of us would die for fashion yet can’t always afford everything our closet craves.  Don’t be ashamed to admit it, you have some clutch pieces from “bargain” shops (cough cough, Forever 21 anyone?) Who doesn’t?  But how can we make our favorite cheap-o items last longer?

1- FIRST and foremost, make sure to wash your fabulous knits/jerseys in cold water, and either air dry or dry on a cool setting or your favorite summer dress will shrink up faster than you can say, “bargain.”

2-Save the extra buttons that come in those teensy packets.  The thread that bargain shops use is SUPER weak so keep extra buttons on hand and before you start wearing your new pants or dress, wrap a couple of more loops of thread through the buttons (this is easy peasy to do yourself or take it a tailor).

3-When it comes to accessories, bargain shops aren’t always selling Harry Winston bling, if you know what I mean...Make sure to take off your jewelry pieces before showering and if you get things wet, towel them off and let them dry before putting them back in your jewelry box!

So, while you are saving up for your next pair of Christian Louboutins, take the time to take care of your steals and make ‘em last just THAT much longer!

Great advice. I just have one more thing to add.

No matter what jewelry you wear, don’t sleep in it. Take it off and let it rest along with you. Sleeping in jewelry is bad for your skin too. If you sleep in earrings, your lobes will stretch out over time. And if you don’t take off your other jewelry periodically, your skin may react in ways that mimic an allergic reaction.
