I love these boots, just not on me.  I mean, I’m under five feet tall.  Can short girls pull off this look?  I really want to try it but I’m thinking that boots that go over the knee and then cut off the rest of the leg (and short ones at that!) are a big fashion no-no.  Thoughts?

I love this look, too! I don’t know if I’m daring enough to try it, but I admire it on those who do. Even more on those who look great with them.

Well, I think technically it might be a fashion no-no for short girls (I am one of those myself), just like cuffed pants and long skirts. However, I also think that something trendy and fun like thigh high boots are fine in moderation, if you really want to give it a shot. The key would be how you wear them and coordinate with the rest of your outfit. Hue is key—I’m thinking you can maintain some leg length by dressing monochromatically—dark boots with dark tights, skirt, shorts, leggings, whatever you were planning on wearing it with, and possibly going so far as to keep the whole outfit monochromatic with some fun accessories to liven it up . . .

Honestly, I don’t like thigh-high boots. They remind me too much of Julia Roberts’ hooker character in Pretty Woman, before she started dressing like a respectable woman. I think knee-high boots are perfect in the winter. They look amazing with opaque tights if your skirt is shorter, and they hide heavy calves. Plus, if they’re leather and well-fitted, with a little heel and tapered toe, they look very modern and cool, which adds a youthful edge to any outfit, and they’re perfectly appropriate for mature fashionistas who want that youthful edge.

Machazait, I agree with Pretty Woman. I’ve never really liked thigh high boots much. They seem to go hand in hand with mini skirts and well, that makes for a very inelegant look.

bellbottomz, if you want to create the illusion of height, wear knee high boots with a pair of opaque tights of the same colour.
