I'm 39 and have been going grey since I was 18. Based on my mother, by the time I am 50 my hair should be completely white. I found this thread this past summer, when I was considering whether or not to finally stop dying my hair. My hair grows very fast and the roots were showing badly after a couple weeks, so I found the comment about the high maintenance of grey hair to be very funny.

I took the plunge and stopped dying. This meant cutting my hair very short. It's still in the somewhat awkward stage, but I'm already noticing both my eyes and complexion look much better with my natural hair colour (silver hair framing my face). I plan to give it at least a year trial. (My eyes are blue, but even I couldn't see that without standing inches from a mirror. Now they seem to pop.)

I don't think there is one answer for everyone. I don't even know whether I'll have a freak out after being offered a seat on the subway and dye it again. :)

If you want to help your stylist send her five kids to Harvard Law School, keep coloring. The best thing I ever did was to let my hair go silver. Women stop me all the time and ask how I did it. Easy: I cut my hair very short, stripped the color and let the roots grow out.

I am HUGE fan of women with gray hair... I think there's nothing more stylish than a woman with gray hair and a fabulous hair cut (think Miranda from the Devil Wears Prada.. fierce)..

This is a recent concern of mine. I was previously dyeing my hair, but have grown it out in the past year. I am going to wait on it, until it gets realllly salt 'n' pepper.

I'm with newbie. I have the same problem. My hairdresser said that what was happening was that I was losing my highlights, "not the overall color'. It boils down to drab, so the highlighting I do really, really helps. Sure wish my hair would go salt-and-pepper. You ladies with white hair are blessed.
