Taking the advice of some posters on TBF, I’ve decided to invest in a few high-priced high heel shoes from Nine West Australia. I’ve learnt my lesson buying poorly made shoes from Target and Payless--they really hurt my feet and never fitted well.

It must be largely due to the fact that I did a lot of walking (a few hours straight), but after my first time wearing my new pair of Nine West heels, the soles have worn off. Some of the lacquered part (I guess that’s how you describe it) has come off to reveal the wooden part below. I doubt that’s normal. Anyway, this pair of shoes (as well as another pair that I bought but haven’t worn) resoled. According to several shoe sites, the best option in synthetic rubber.

My question is this: is it advisable to always resole new heels/shoes with rubber soles if their current soles aren’t already rubber?

Also, I suspect the wearing off of my soles is because I was walking downhill a lot. Is that actually possible? Or should I look at correcting the way I’m walking? It’s the outer margin of the shoes that have worn off the most, which I’ve read is normal.

Update: So, I went to the shoe repair man and he resoled my shoes. The original soles are plastic (not wood, as I wrongly thought). Anyway, the new soles are resin, which I’m told are long-lasting and non-slip. It worked out to about AU$35. I think this is a good investment if you want to get as much wear out of your shoes as possible.

Hiya,

I have the majority of my shoes re-soled if they are quality dress shoes. The thin layer of rubber really adds to the life of the shoe and makes them less-slippery to walk on. People really underestimate the value of a good cobbler. Just as important as knowing a good tailor. So yes, I am all about rubber sole!

I have big feet and have to pay ridiculous amounts for good shoes, so I’m always getting them resoled. I have to tell you that Nine West shoes aren;t always the highest quality- even though they’re a bit pricey. In fact Nine West, Steve Madden, etc are all made by the same manufacturer which is way you often see the same style of shoes from these different brands
