We all know that lots of the retailers you'll see at the local mall cater to a trendy juniors crowd -- but what stores do "mature" fashionistas look to for style and value? Recommendations, please . . .
Lots of folks LOVE Chicos.. which from time to time can have some cute stuff.. and coldwater creek.. which is furtherest from trendy you can get.
However my mom, who keeps it popping at 50+, shops at places like target, F21, Payless, Dillards, Marshalls Fields (before it became Macys), Gap, Old Navy...
Seriously I wish women would stop limiting themselves by age and go for looks that work for them. I always think of Betsey Johnson, who is well into her 60s and dresses a bit crazy.. but it works like a charm for her... It's okay to have a personality and style when you're older.
I think mature women, fashionistas or not, can shop at any store that has good classic and trendy classic basics. It's really a matter of knowing what works for you and avoiding the dowdy, old-lady stuff.
Oh, I agree that mature fashionistas should never limit themselves to certain stores -- my question was more along the line of thinking that frequently stores that are considered hip or stylish pander to younger crowds, and wondering what retailers mature fashionistas feel "get" the wants and needs of a more mature and stylish demographic . . .
I like JJill a lot. They have a white shirt that I swear by. I shop their sales. Also love to shop the accessories wall at Forever 21. Can't fit into their clothes, but I do love the baubles, bangles and beads. Also, Dress Barn. They have a huge selection of dresses at reasonable prices and even though it's an atrocious name --like a place cows would shop, they've got a great staff that actually helps! Yes, Coldwater Creek is good for some really great classic pieces. Now, I'm not crazy about Chico's. I feel their stuff is too "old trying to be young." And I also like Bebe.
For jeans, Ts, sweaters...Target, Old Navy, Gap. More difficult for dressier clothes. Actually had the same problem with my daughter when she needed business clothes for a competition. She is very petite, and at the usual stores she shops, skirts were too short, fabrics not good quality, etc. I used to really like to shop Casual Corner and Petite Sophisticates (which is where she got her suit); I.could get my jacket in a petite and the matching skirt at Casual Corner.
