Check out AVON. Their prices are around 2.99-7.99. They look and feel like brushes that are much more expensive.
I do like the Sephora brushes, but they're not very inexpensive. After nearly three years, my face brush is just now starting to "shed" when I use it. My favorite set of inexpensive brushes can be bought at any drugstore. I believe they're called Studio Basics. They come in clear plastic reusuable packaging. They also make sponges and wedges. I also have a Maybelline eye shadow brush that I've had for at least five years. It has never shed and the bristles are soft although I think they are manmade.
If any of you live in canada, Shoppers Drug Marts quo line is awesome. also check out the big O, as in Overstock for makup brush sets. I found a set that while not dirt cheap has gotten amazing reviews,

I second the Studio BAsics brushes as well...I have had mine for a couple of years and they were worth the 10 dollars for the set.-Still going strong
I am a big fan of the Sonia Kashuk line at Target. Good quality for the price.
Any others?
I love Target but never would of thought of getting make up brushes there...do they just have a set or can you buy separate supplemental brushes there? would love to be able to do that instead of spending $100 on one chanel brush! thanks for sharing that!

I completely agree with the Sonia Kashuk brushes. I bought mine in a set several years ago after Christmas for $10 and I am 100% in love with them. You can buy individual brushes and they go sale quite often. The set I have is a travel set and has a great little case. I clean them really often and I just wash them in Cetaphil cleanser and then leave them out to dry. After washing them every week and using them daily they are still not shedding.
I have had luck with a concealer brush from a company called Face Secrets that I got for $3 or $4 at Sally Beauty Supply, and a Ms. Makeup angled eyeliner brush that I got for less (don't remember the exact amount) at Ulta. I wish I could remember what brand my big fluffy brushes are from b/c they've lasted me years, but I have no idea where I got them - though I'm sure they were cheap!
i recently bought LILIQUE BRUSHES from KRISTY THE BEAUTY STORE IN BEVERLY CENTER- i love them they are reasonably priced and are all natural hair. i hate synthetic brushes cause they fall apart after a while. although they are not as cheap as the sonia kashuk the quality is as good as mac or chanel brushes at a fraction of the price
You know I heard about using paint brushes as make-up brushes. There are so many texture variaties to pick from...As for what I use, I have the Sephora retractable blush brush (great for traveling) and a powder brush from Avon. I'm thinking of switching to the retractable powder brush from Sephora (travels better). Both work well...Question, when should one replace their make-up brushes?
I've never heard of using paint brushes, but that is a fun idea. I know my esthetician uses a brush that looks like a paintbrush when she puts masks on me and I love the feeling of the brush on my face.
Sonia's brushes are a seriously good deal for the quality. I've been using mine for a few years, despite the fact that my dog chewed up the handle. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
I would think you would only need to replace the brushes if they are losing hairs or no longer holding their shape. My friend has a blush brush where all the hairs are pushed out in a v-shape - I keep telling her I think its time to move on (and maybe not push on her face so hard?). Otherwise, I would think if you clean them regularly and take care of them they should last quite a long time.
