I need fashion advice.

I have to go to a work funtion for all managers at a resort hotel in Mexico where we will have meetings and dinner for two nights.

What does one wear in this situation?

A suit seems to buttoned-up, but resort wear? way too casual—what’s the middle ground? Help!

A suit might be too much, you’re right, so separates are going to be key. A pair of lightweight slacks and a pretty blouse might be appropriate, or a dress with a lightweight jacket that can be removed in more casual situations. Shoes will set the tone as well—depending on how conservative the events, a low heel open toe slingback can just dressy enough, but not uncomfortable. And you can dress up basic separates for the event with sophisticated jewelry—a striking cuff bracelet, maybe, or some chic earrings to add interest.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Well I think it depends on what kind of business you’re in.  If it’s a blue-collared event, I’d be sure to bring something along the old boy’s club would approv of, you know how they are.  I also think bringing some light seperates that can be dressed up and down and sensible accesories will keep you in balance with the good old boys.  And if all else fails… take a great spa to reward yourself.
