I pray to all that is right and good in this world, that this is the year we all stop obsessing about celebs. I’m so sick about hearing about Britney, Lindasy and Paris that we have a new directive on the site. We’re severly limiting the number of celebs featured. I think what annoys me the most is that their movies, cds, etc BOMB in terms of sales, yet they’re still on the cover of every mag. Now rehab, a very serious, life changing event for most, is now the hottest pr ploy.

Am I alone?

No!  You’re not alone.  I agree.
And don’t worry, the presidential race is heating up, so hopefully there won’t be room for
“news” about these girls.

You are definitely NOT alone! We need a break from these galz. And maybe they need a break too. They certainly don’t inspire my style or thinking on what is correct. And maybe the presidential campaign will finally push some of the celeb’s antics off the front page. I am also sick of seeing celebs on all the magazine covers. Clean that slate in ‘08! Yeah!! :-D

I thought the prez election would knock the celebs off, then Brit goes bat-crazy and CNN spends 20 minutes (no joke) talking about her mental state the day after the Iowa Caucuses.

I’m with you, Kathryn, let’s give our obsession with celebrity hijinks a rest.  I think it was a really NEGATIVE trend as it focussed MOSTLY on celebrities who were in trouble (except for St. Angelina whom even if you are sick of her is at least trying to do the right thing with her celebrity) rather than anyone who was doing something worthwhile professionally or personally.

And I also agree that as Americans we need to be paying more attention to the presidential campaign but EVEN that has become subject to the YOUTUBE effect.  We really need to focus on issues and finding ways to be better citizens of the world. OK...now I am on a soapbox!  Sorry.

I am tired about hearing about how Brit is losing it.  While she may “like” the attention her boys DON’T need it.  I actually am afraid the something will happen to her boys or her.  Enough is enough!  Let’s move on to other topics.

I really wish that women would start looking to some of the great female role models out there and talk about them. It bothers me when I call home and my mom and I are immediately talking about the most recent news of a hot celebrity. I’ve decided to start reading more REAL news articles and to start going to the WashingtonPost.com to get my news. I was also bothered by the fact that CNN covered the death of Anna Nicole Smith for hours at a time, even though there seemed to be no updates as to what was going on. I agree that it was a serious event, but I also think the best thing for anybody is to leave the subject alone for awhile, especially out of respect for her loved ones. I was very disappointed in CNN.

I hope so. These girls all have stylists, they seem to have unending money, they have trainers who come to their home, and they have access to hair and makeup.  On a personal note, they also seem to have a lack of other options in their lives, plus too many “yes” people surrounding them. The media has made them into a product. I don’t think of them as either a life role model or even a fashion role model.

My girlfriend’s daughter recently had a 3 month stay in the psychiatric hospital due to anorexia. I’m not blaming it on “fashion” or fashion models, but the obsession with girls such as Nicole, Lindsay, Paris and all the rest does fuel a desire to be thin --despite one’s natural body type.

I yearn for a return to well-fitted clothes with an appropriate silhouette. I’d like to see women dressed fashionably in appropriate clothes for their body type, rather than try to imitate Paris, Nicole or Lindsay.

Having just spent a great deal of time in LA- specifically in Hollywood LA, I can tell you a lot of it really does come from here. In Hollywood LA everyone is abnormally thin- I mean below a size 00 and their not petite. If you wear any size larger than 4, people literally treat you like you do not exist. Seriously.. I have friends who wear a size 6, who have serious body image issues from living here.  Class is determined not by style, but by weight in LA… It’s very interesting and distribing, because the women who focus on this do not look happy. But as one person recently said to me- her weight is the only thing she can control...It’s very sad. However, when you step outside of Hollywood- there’s a lot of real people.

Okay, so next time you come out to L.A., you gimme a buzz. Us big girls live outside of L.A. About an hour away. I think the dress size goes up with each mile east from Hollywood La La Land! It’s weird, but for so many women --"diet" is the only thing on their mind. I kind of subscribe to the French idea: don’t diet, just eat right.
A few months ago, I was at Bloomingdales in West L.A. I saw an actress --Marcia Cross, and was stunned by how rail thin she was. But then Julie Christie shows up last night at the SAG awards (after having spent many years at her farmhouse in Wales) and suddenly everyone understands the meaning of “style, grace and good taste.” And by the way, I’ve got a post on my blog coming up about her. She’s stunning!

Interestingly, my girlfriend’s daughter (who has anorexia) did her stay at UCLA. They have an eating disorders program there. I’m just very sad over the whole predicament.

I don’t even know WHY Paris is a celebrity. She’s just an heiress. She got famous for shooting an explicit film, singing a song which probably had her voice synthesized, and naming a variety of perfumes after herself. Seriously. What is wrong with the world? We should be focusing on more important matters and not on how insane Britney Spears is. If she died, the world wouldn’t stop moving. I don’t see why she should be on the cover of every tabloid known to mankind.

Brittney shouldn’t.  We should quit examining every single detail of a celebrity’s life. It isn’t necessary. As for Britney, I have a lot of sympathy. She has made millions upon millions for managers, PR people, her parents, attorneys, agents ...you name it. She did every single thing ever asked of her from the time she was a child. Good lord, if anyone was ever set up to have things go wrong in her personal development, it was her.  She should be left to sort things out in peace.
