A Fortune article (here: http://money.cnn.com/2007/12/13/news/companies/fashion_kapner.fortune/index.htm?postversion=2007121403), which I found by way of a post at psfk.com, blames the current lackluster retail season on boring fashion. It’s true that there hasn’t exactly been a fashion revolution this season—menswear tailoring, patent boots, and clutches aren’t what you’d call breakthrough style, right?—I’m thinking there’s been a great variety of fun and super-flattering pieces making the rounds. What do you think—is this a boring season for fashion, and have you cut back on your fashion spending because of it?

Well, it seems that what is out there are the really nice basics. Which is ok if you need to replace something. But there is a point where you don’t need more stuff. And I think the economy is holding people back, at least in the Cleveland area. I don’t see the malls being packed (I stopped to finish some Christmas shopping last night) like they usually are this time of year.
