Okay.. I know this is going to be a big one, but today I posted a yeah or nay on the site in regards to breast cancer marketing and how many companies are using the "soft and pink" marketing of the disease to their advantage, without offering any real dollars to support to the movement…

Also, breast cancer gets disportportionately more support than other, non-pink, diseases link Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, etc. Do you think it's because of the pink color and or because men find breast sexy (but a lung probably isn't all that sexy of an organ)?

I have thought about this time and time again. Especially considering the heart disease kills more of us than breast cancer. I just don't know. But hopefully, we can find a way to make them all equally recognized.

Yes, the Pink Campaign has become controversial because it is sooooo widespread.

Of course the awareness part of it is POSITIVE but as with most things in America it has been overtaken by consumerism. For those living with breast cancer this is a blessing but for others with lesser known diseases it must be maddening and disheartening to have to fight for $$$ and public awareness.

Like most people I remain ambivalent. I would contribute $$ this month to the cause but I wouldn't necessarily be compelled to BUY PINK.

Speaking of marketing, and this may be a little off topic but did you all know that Robin Roberts from Good Morning America has breast cancer? Well neither did I until this morning when she did an entire segment on it along with her oncologist and 4 survivors. Don't get me wrong I love GMA and Ms. Roberts but I wonder would they have done this if it did not hit home for her.

I suspect that part of it is because two of the possible outcomes (of treatment, that is) are hair loss from chemo and loss of a/both breast(s) from a mastectomy, both of which are outwardly visible and *"defeminizing"*. This outward "defeminization", for men and women, can be discomfiting.

In contrast, if a guy were to have his jewels removed because of testicular cancer, who'd know?

I'll also point out here that two things that aren't emphasized enough are that heart disease is more of a threat and the disparity of who's hit *harder* by breast cancer, for reasons which most likely go beyond genetics.

Blkwdow you are right. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women. Today I even see the referees at the NFL games wearing pink bracelets.

Pink marketing was claimed abused women by promoting things in pink to support cancer patients. Example is one of this popular cosmetic company who claimed support breast cancer, but their products contains carcinogen substances that cause cancer. If they really sincere to support breast cancer patient, they should improve their products first.
