I used to totally love the coupons you would get in the sunday newspaper.. however, lately it seems that most of the coupons have been replaced by direct mail ads for things like checks and dolls..

I am the only who has noticed this? What do you guy think?

You're right there are more mail in type things in there but I am still a sucker for them. Just this past Sunday I found great back to school clothes, etc. for my kids that I still haven't seen on any other advertisements.

I love couponing and coupon with the help of grocerygame.com but the Sunday coupons have been very thin the last couple of weeks!

I'm with you, I might get ONE coupon a week that is for something I actually normally buy, but when that doesn't even cover the cost of the newspaper to me...I've just quit. I'm not going out of my way to buy something just because there's a coupon for it! I don't tend to try new products and definitely don't eat a lot of junk/snack/processed foods which seem to be so popular in the coupons.

I notice there are more ads lately, but I can't tell if there are actually fewer coupons or if I'm simply becoming more discriminating about what foods I'll buy and eat, so I'm using fewer coupons because most of them are for foods that are terrible for you (and not that yummy, either).

I still get the coupons and when there's a good sale on something useful, I pound it pretty hard. I don't coupon nearly as much as I used to, though.

I'm in!
I usually buy 1-2 copies the Sunday Chicago Tribune from Dollar Tree on *Saturday*.

I do this because a) it's a dollar (usually $1.79), and style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif by buying it
the day before the sales start, I know what to look for during the coming
week, so I can either hold off on getting X (Walgreens), or buy it on
Saturday, then come back with the receipt for an adjustment (Target).
By having a "heads-up" on the sales ahead of time, I can plan ahead
and combine sales with coupons.

Why 2 papers? Double coupons! Keep in mind that if there's a B1G1 or
B1G1 50% off sale on an item, that you can use 2 coupons at the register,
because you're buying 2 items--don't let the cashier tell you otherwise.

The area where I save the most money this way is, by far, cosmetics,
which tend to have high-value ($2-3 off) coupons.

Big yea in my house! I started buying the double Atlanta Journal Constitution for the exact same reason. Since I have been doing this, I have really been able to save and keep more of my hard earned money. What I've also started doing is getting the coupons right off the aisles in the stores and just holding onto them, then when the item goes on sale, use it then. Sometimes I have also used it in conjuction w/ the Sunday coupon. Most times the the aisle coupon cannot be doubled, but the coupon from the newspaper can, so if you shop it just right, you can get the item for free or darn close to it. Another great resource that I use is http://www.cutouthunger.org. This is a great website and resource for planning out your grocery shopping from the Saturday/Sunday newspapers for the grocery store(s) in your area.

Does anyone else dislike coupons? I don’t know if it’s just my lack of self control, but I always wind up buying extra or buying something I don’t really need just because I have a coupon. Then some coupons are like buy 5 and get 1 half price. But I really don’t need 5 items.

I actually think I wind up spending MORE overall, when I use coupons. Maybe it’s psycological as well. Like if you save 3 dollars, you unconsciously allow yourself to spend that 3 dollars elsewhere.

I’m the same way. I feel like if I have a coupon for a product I gotta get the product. I don’t get the paper because I only have so much room in my apartment for a newspaper stack. I get coupons when I go to my parents’ house and go through the coupon packs for any good coupons my mom didn’t clip.

I agree that seems like coupon packs have more ads for figurines or whatever instead of coupons to use at stores. The only really good coupon packs are Proctor and Gambles monthly packs.

Yeah I have noticed this too, I think its all to do with this money crisis, companies can’t afford to put so much on sale
