I'm in!
I usually buy 1-2 copies the Sunday Chicago Tribune from Dollar Tree on *Saturday*.
I do this because a) it's a dollar (usually $1.79), and style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif by buying it
the day before the sales start, I know what to look for during the coming
week, so I can either hold off on getting X (Walgreens), or buy it on
Saturday, then come back with the receipt for an adjustment (Target).
By having a "heads-up" on the sales ahead of time, I can plan ahead
and combine sales with coupons.
Why 2 papers? Double coupons! Keep in mind that if there's a B1G1 or
B1G1 50% off sale on an item, that you can use 2 coupons at the register,
because you're buying 2 items--don't let the cashier tell you otherwise.
The area where I save the most money this way is, by far, cosmetics,
which tend to have high-value ($2-3 off) coupons.
Big yea in my house! I started buying the double Atlanta Journal Constitution for the exact same reason. Since I have been doing this, I have really been able to save and keep more of my hard earned money. What I've also started doing is getting the coupons right off the aisles in the stores and just holding onto them, then when the item goes on sale, use it then. Sometimes I have also used it in conjuction w/ the Sunday coupon. Most times the the aisle coupon cannot be doubled, but the coupon from the newspaper can, so if you shop it just right, you can get the item for free or darn close to it. Another great resource that I use is http://www.cutouthunger.org. This is a great website and resource for planning out your grocery shopping from the Saturday/Sunday newspapers for the grocery store(s) in your area.
