What Designer/sLabels Do Mature Fashionistas Love?

Some designers/labels seem to cater to the younger set (think Alice + Olivia, Rogan, etc.) -- who are the designers/labels that mature fashionistas feel get their style/fashion sense?

Graying Hair—To Dye or Not to Dye?

Okay, mature fashionistas -- this is more beauty than fashion related, but the lack of gray-haired ladies in the fashion industry/media at large has me wondering about the opinions of the everyday fashionista on the subject. Whether it's a few stray strands you have (like me) or a full head of silver -- what are your thoughts on covering the gray in today's style climate? Do you dye? If so, why? If not, how do you feel about the subject on the whole? Do tell . . .

Makeup Tips for Mature Fashionistas?

There's no denying it -- as we age, our skin changes in many ways, and lots of beauty experts say that mature women should adjust their makeup routines accordingly (i.e. colors, types of makeup, how it's applied). For example, using cream based eyeshadows vs. a drying powder, or lighter foundations to lessen the risk of settling into lines . . .

Do you agree that you should change your makeup routine as you mature, and if so, any tips on how you think mature fashionistas can adjust their makeup routine to their best advantage?

Tips for women

Hi all,

I wanted to provide some tips on women dressing.Hoping it would help you,

Women are born beautiful. They look perfect when they dress up well. Hee are some tips that might help women.

Pants: For slacks, the most flattering ones that will also hide the condition of our bellies are those made of tailored cotton. Zippers should also be at the side; zippers at the front only show unwanted bulge. For jeans, go for the long and lean ones, as well as the straight, narrow or slightly-tapered ones that create the illusion of length for the body.

Skirts: Stay far, far away from flimsy fabrics and pleated skirts. They will only make your pouch and curves more pronounced. Instead, try full skirts, mini-skirts or A-line skirts or Semi-stretchable denim skirts work well too.

Belts: Keep your belts big, wide and chunky. Also, wear them slung around the hips instead of at the waist. Narrow belts will only make the bulge seem bigger.

--
Thanks

Fashionable Eco-friendly Dresses …

I'm looking for the apparel that are latest in eco-fashion.
Meaning, I like to get the tanks/tops/shirts that have any prints or messages written on it like Organic Earth, or Mother Earth etc. It looks so cute and different than any other shirts.

Can anybody like to share your ideas on eco- fashion?
Which place do you think is the best for buying eco-friendly dresses?

What’s the Most Important Style Lesson You’ve Learned?

Okay, by the time we get to a certain age, we've learned a thing or two about style that may not have been so obvious when we were younger and blinded by trendiness. I'm only in my 30s, but I have definitely learned the value of good pair of heels and a great fitting jacket, which can take just about anything from ho-hum to reasonably chic. So, "mature" fashionistas, share some of your hard-earned style wisdom . . .

What to wear with a pencil skirt?

Last week I was at JC Penney with my 20-something and she convinced me to buy a high-waisted pencil skirt (on sale, of course). I did get some help from other women in the fitting room, who approved. Getting anything high-waisted feels so odd (not to mention all those thoughts of "Mom jeans") especially since I don't have much room between my waist and my bustline. I have some great shoes to wear with this, but unsure about a top. I know the classic look is a button down, but I'm not overly fond of them...they bunch up and come untucked...plus anything too bulky that's tucked in will show the bulk thru the skirt fabric. I was thinking of a thin fitted knit shell (in white) with a thin knit sweater (the one I like is a bright green and hits about where the bottom of the skirt waistband is). The shell has a short-sleeved sweater to match, but then I'll have to find a little something to pep it up a bit. Could I wear a close-fitting thin knit v-neck tshirt? I am resisting buying something new just to wear with the skirt. It's black...I ought to be able to find stuff in my closet that will work!

Rules for Skirt Length—Are There Any?

Okay, this topic has long been a point of contention for women of all ages -- skirt length and age. Some argue that they should assume an inverse proportion (at least I think that's it - my math is rusty), meaning the older you are the longer the hemline gets. Some stick to the rule of no minis after 30, etc. etc. But seriously, are there hard and fast rules you follow on this topic?

New here, need style advice!

Hi, I just crossed the age line into this forum...I need some style advice. I'm 5'4", about 140#, which means that I'm a bit on the chunky side, but not fat. My waist is short, as is my neck. Also I am back on my workout/diet routine to lose about 15 #.

Anyway, I like to sew and am pretty good at it-- have sewn some fairly complicated suits for myself before, including one to which I affixed a lovely mink collar that I got from one of my mother's old dresses....yummy..

I'd like to sew a really chic suit for each of summer or winter. I want a fabric that can travel well. I like a really sleek look, like a longish Asian coat over pants. Or, I like a very, very classic look, like a short, boxy, cute jacket with a matching skirt. I've noticed I look horrid in wide necklines, wide skirts...wide ANYTHING. I hate short sleeves because my upper arms, no matter how much weight I lose or how much I lift weights, always look flabby.

IDo you think the Asian type jacket I've mentioned would be okay for someone of my physique, short and almost-fat (oh... I hate to look like a dumpy middle-aged lady but I guess I really am...wwaaaahh!)

I should mention that my regular style tends to the sporty-classic look; I really like most of what LLBean and Orvis have to offer. I'm also thought of as a brainier-than-usual chick, if a bit eccentric. I travel alot and sometimes I need to look sharp. Help?
