5:58- If you’re a fashion die-hard, you’ve probably got a split-screen going on the tv or find yourself flipping between ABC and E! coverage. Our favorite Red Carpet reporter, Giuliana Rancic, has already donned two metallic numbers- and we are loving her statuesque figure in this embellished, cap-sleeved Tony Ward gown. Gatsby glam much?

6:01- Milla Jovovich proves that Old Hollywood always works on the Oscars Red Carpet in her one-shoulder Elie Saab Couture gown. Between her and Giuliana right off the bat, we get the feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of these side-swept cuts and lighter shades.

6:14- Presenter Ellie  Kemper in Armani Prive looking the exact opposite of a dowdy bridesmaid. The actress described the color of this sequinned and slim mermaid gown as “Hollywood rust.”

6:25- Fellow Bridesmaids co-star Melissa McCarthy is positively glowing in her floating Marina Rinaldi gown with gem-encrusted bodice and neckline. Best friend Brian Atwood gifted the star the sparkling clutch that acted as the finishing touch.

6:45- Viola Davis rocked the heck out of this emerald green Vera Wang. The jewel tone is just goregous against her skin tone, hugs all the right places and the pleated bottom skirt adds just the right amount of fun to the occasion.

6:50- Jessica Chastain stirs memories of Nicole Kidman in this chiffon Alexander McQueen gown with intricate gold overlay. The color combination even compliments The Help star’s strawberry locks.

7:09- Octavia Spencer rounds out The Help trio in a stunning Tadashi Shoji gown with exquisite pleating, beading and shimmer, showing us the best way to accentuate your curves.

7:21- Maya Rudolph does a little Roaring 20s rendition of her own in a plum Johanna Johnson with embellished cap-sleeves. The matching crystal belt shows off the tinniest part of the presenter’s waistline in the elegant fit-and-flair gown.

7:36- Talk about a dream. Kristen Wiig looks effortlessly chic in this nude, J. Mendel layered tulle gown. She’s achieved a delicate balance of looking pulled together but not over-done.

Lisbeth on Runway

Cinematic interpretations of literature or the historical past are known for their awesome costumes.  This past year, for example, who can forget the dainty costumes of the Southern belles of “The Help,” or badass digital hacker Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?”  According to a WSJ article, apparently, we’re not the only ones admiring on screen costumes.  Designers are looking to our favorite Oscar movies this year for inspiration in creating some of their respective Spring 2012 pieces. Notable looks include Lisbeth Salander-inspired wear (courtesy of the House of Mugler) and Marilyn Monroe’s (via Michelle Williams) iconic blonde bombshell fashion (by Raf Simon for Jil Sander).
