Accessorize: The Scoop on Their Spring and Summer Collections

April 23, 2011 by SuzannaSuzanna on April 23, 2011

 Spring and Summer Collections

What: TBF attended Accessorize’s media event celebrating their Spring/Summer collections.

From Accessorize’s With its own in-house design team, Accessorize holds a unique position on the high street with its inspirational, globally sourced, well-priced and good quality collection of fashion accessories. Displayed in an original and impactful colour-bay design, the constantly changing range includes every kind of accessory imaginable; bags, purses, jewelery, belts, hats, scarves, flip flops, gloves, hair accessories and cosmetics.

Accessorize opened its first USA store in May 2010, and now operate in New York, Washington DC & Virginia.

What We Say: Think Claire’s but add in a bit of sophistication and some more innovation. Now age the customer a bit and you’ve got Accessorize. This is a store we wouldn’t necessarily go into upon passing, but once we were inside, we didn’t want to leave. And because Accessorize is originally from the UK, it has a great British flair to that you don’t tend to see here in similar accessory-heavy stores.

Ann Taylor Fall 2011 Preview

April 9, 2011 by SuzannaSuzanna on April 9, 2011

Ann Taylor Fall 2011

What: TBF attended the Ann Taylor Fall 2011 Fashion Preview

The Scoop: We really loved what’s in stores for fall at Ann Taylor.

As was seen on the Fall 2011 runways, bright colors like oranges and deep reds are really hot and they’re coming at you in all different forms. Red pumps, orange blouses, deep blues and greens as well as other jewel tones are prevalent. We love this as we’re huge fans of being bold, but Ann Taylor has also designed some great neutrals. Lots of beiges and browns (which we actually liked–sometimes brown can be very drab) and blacks. Note: blacks and browns can be combined, ladies. That’s not a fashion faux-pas.

Rory Beca’s Forever 21 Spring Line Launch

March 27, 2011 by SuzannaSuzanna on March 27, 2011

Rory Beca

What: TBF Attended the launch of Rory Beca’s Forever 21 Line and brings you the scoop.

The Lowdown: To celebrate Forever 21’s most recent designer collaborations, one of the New York City stores launched the line with designer Rory Beca in attendance to chat about her line, from apparel to accessories.

What We Say: Rory Beca’s line for Forever21 has that wonderful vintage, boho-chic look that you search for at thrift shops and only sometimes find. We really loved all of her patterned pieces, most with small floral print that are great for spring, but a few favorites stood out. Must-have spring/summer items include a good romper and Beca produced an adorable one in charcoal gray. Additionally, we loved (and purchased!) her peach thick knit sweater. It looks retro but (obviously) isn’t–the hue is a very hot one right now (the spring and fall 2011 color wheel is all about brights) and acts as a pseudo-neutral so you can pair it with almost anything. On top of our general approval of her line, Rory herself was very sweet and we enjoyed meeting her. Though we certainly can’t afford her Rory Beca label, we’re happy to stick to Forever21 to snag her designs.

QVC Beauty Breakfast: Anti-aging, Simplification and Technology

March 19, 2011 by SuzannaSuzanna on March 19, 2011

QVC Beauty Breakfast

What: TBF attended the QVC Beauty Breakfast and checked out all the goods.

The Lowdown: QVC gathered their beauty vendors under one roof to display all of the new and upcoming gadgets and products that you can expect to see on QVC. We attended, talked to the experts, tested products and are bringing you the info.

What We Say: To sum up this event, if that’s even possible, we noticed three major themes that many of the products spoke to: Anti-aging, Simplifying and Technological Innovations.

Anti-aging products are all the rage and are getting better and better. At QVC you’ll find some really high-end products (like upwards of $500) that use lasers to lessen your wrinkles and you’ll find some more affordable products, like Philosophy’s Miracle line, bareMinerals neck cream and a bunch of dermatologically created products promising to keep your skin firm and looking young. Truly, there’s something at QVC for every woman seeking anti-aging solutions.

We are huge fans of simplifying our daily beauty process. It’s fun to spend time meticulously putting on your face on occasion, but with all that is thrown at you during the day, sometimes you need quick and effective processes. For waxing we loved the Bliss Waxing kit–the wax is already in a cup, ready to go. Kate Somerville Tanning towelettes make for easy and even application so no more streakiness resulting from unevenly applied tanning lotion. And of course there was the Josie Maran Three-in-one shadow and liner pen, which we’ll talk about further below.
