New Pics: Proenza Schouler at Target

Spring 2007 Runway vs. Spring 2007 Target Line

I'm not sure if it's the styling, the models, or the clothes themselves, but I don't think Proenza Schouler at Target is going to do very well. Their clothing for the Go International line, with exception of the picture above, looks NOTHING like their Spring 2007 runway collection. At least Behnaz's Target line stayed very true to her higher priced collections. PS's line looks more like Benetton meets Polo Ralph Lauren, than their normal dark, funky, causal vibe.
Regardless.. I'm still going to buy that pink coat shown above and those yellow pumps which are HOT.

Love that coat! Do you know of anywhere that I could get some stylish elbow length gloves to go with a coat like that? Thanks! I love your blog.

Try Nordstrom. They’re great for gloves.

Druli-

I’ve seen samples of the garments and the yellow pumps are Mossimo and I believe they will be available in the spring.

Is that really such a bad thing?  The runway review on style.com said that the some of the proportions were so tight and severe that they wouldn’t be flattering for anyone other than A-list celebs.  I think their Target line is good for the kind of customer they can expect.  It’s youthful and original, hopefully without being unforgiving to the average woman’s body.

For them to take such a big departure from their normal aesthetic is a bad thing, especially in the case of Vogue darlings PS. Another reason why it’s bad is because they’ve publicly stated that they didn’t want to do a line for Target cause they felt it might “dilute their brand”. Fine. I have no problem with that. But to then a year later, after seeing the financial successes of other lines, they decide that having a line in 4,000+ Targets nationwide would be okay, go on to make a subpar line and a bit annoying to me.

Also, I was at fashion week and spoke with people who were at the show (I’m not cool enough to be invited to their FW show) and with the exception of the coat, a cone bra cup or two and some color combinations it is pretty different.

Thanks TBF.  I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of your response.  It’s one of the things that I like most about your site.

I adore that pink coat too!  It’s really the only piece in their line that I’m crazy about.  The yellow pumps are cute too, unfortunately for me, Target shoes don’t fit well on me.

The newer pictures out on the web (and if you’re creative you can actually find the Target sites and place a pre-order for certain items) are definetely intriguing--while they don’t sharply resemble the SS 07 collection, there are many striking resemblances to earlier collections--particularly the ones that got them early critical acclaim.  Though they may be referencing their 2004 and 2005 spring collections, those are the ones that established their “look”.

I was a little underwhelmed at first as well from just seeing the initial pics that were leaked from the preview invitation, but there are definete winners to look out for, even if there are some duds.

The pink coat and bustier will probably go fast.  Actually, the pink coat is also available in a grey stripe version.  I would advise going one size up on the coat for the trapeze effect.

The models all look like they are on crack.  Pale, gaunt, and horridly underweight, they look like rigor mortis has already set in.

The clothing I’ve seen in stores is blah—more burgundy, black and worst of all, “GRAY”—which screams OLD LADY.

The silk tops were coming unraveled and the grey sweater shown with a purple dress looks like a sweater I had from Land’s End 15 years ago.  The buttons are not quality—they gap.

I am really disappointed in this collection from hell.

So are the yellow pumps going to be available at Target or not?

The photos of the models in the pumps is very, very misleading.

Some of this collection is so drab.  Way too much gray - a very hard color for most women to wear well.

I’ve purchased a few pieces from the target collection and I’ve been very happy with them. That pink coat above isn’t at all appealing in person.

I went to the store to see in person. I was very disappointed with the collection. Very drab with all the grey with exception of the cute purple skirt and the palm print was hideous. I think the GeorgeME for Spring is much better, Mark Eisen rocks!

I bought a pair of their striped trousers to wear casually… not only did the check out lady gape her mouth in horror at the $50 price tag… but a button on the back pocket fell off.

I have yet to see any of the online photos or commercial shots in any store in Tampa, FL. We’re a growing fashion market as well, so where are the hot clothes I wanted to love so much??

Target and Proenza Schouler obviously had some trouble in agreeing on a suitable collection, because what I’ve seen is garbage.

I actually found some of the dresses to be very cute, but the sizing is not good. I’m a size 2/4 and I wore a small in both the Behnaz and the Luella Target lines and of the three dresses I ordered, two were far too small in the bust and the third was far too large in the bust.

Proenza Schouler for Target: Would someone please tell me how these crazy sizes work?  I wear size 8 normally.  I buy a lot online because I am tall and average weight and I have developed an eye for what fits.  But the Target site gives you no clue how to figure out these sizes.  Thanks!

The sizes seem inconsistent. I am normally a 6, and the purple skirt in medium fit me as I expected. But I got another skirt (white with grey dots) that I needed to go to size large. The shirts look lik they run small to me. I don’t care for a lot of the line, but I really like the two skirts, and the coat looked quite cute in the store.
