I have a confession to make that may cause me to be excommunicated from the fashionista club.
I want a pair of Ugg boots.
Yes, they’re horrible. Yes, they’re one, very tiny, step above the dreaded Crocs. Yes, they’re little more than overpriced moon boots. But they’re warm, comfortable and don’t rub the emerging bunion on my right foot. Apparently Pamela Anderson, the consummate connoisseur of furry shoes and tattooed men, and I have something in common after all.
Now, I thought a pair of “inspired” Uggs at Old Navy would satisfy this strange shopping need. But unfortunately, the “inspired” version weren’t as “fluffy” as the real thing. I turned to eBay to see if I could fine a pair of “real” Uggs in my size for less than $100. At their height, I bought a pair off of eBay for $25 (they were used- and my friends couldn’t believe I wore a pair of used shoes- but secretly wish they had a pair too). The only colors available in the Amazon woman-size 11 were pink and a very scary shade of periwinkle blue.
Lucky for me, I spotted several pairs of Uggs at the DSW near the Garden State Mall that were about 30% off the retail price. Using my DSW coupons and my earned certificates, I’ll be able to get a pair for well under $100. I’m so there on Saturday.
So, am I crazy to want a pair of Uggs? I’d like to think that Uggs are so far out that they’re back in. Is this just wishful thinking? Do you think I could get away with wearing to NYC fashion week in February?

It’s a very very grey area. I think they can be good, when used for their intended purpose—very cold weather, protecting your feet and legs from snow. But you’re walking in to veerrry dangerous territory when you wear them with cotton sundresses!
I admint it Kathryn. I had the same love hate affair with the Ugg. I had a pseudo uggs from payless for a season. I hated them, my hubby hated them. I went to the outlets in Riverhead, NY and found a pair for 90 in kids size 6. (I have small feet) I tried them on and secretly wanted to buy them. I didnt but a week later at the outdoor store by my house I found them for $70..the same price for a pair of LLBean boots or Sorrels. Since I needed shoes for upstate winters I got em! Havent worn them yet but I know I’ll be thankful I have them during xmas upstate!
I purchased a pair last year and I will be rocking them this year and I would encourage you to do the same
I definitely don’t wear Uggs for style but they can’t be beat when it comes to warmth in the winter. I love mine:)
I must say, I too, was against the Ugg when I first saw them. But then I started thinking about how cute I thought they would be when I’m trying to be casual/cute on the weekends. And the ideas that I come up with are never-ending. Steve Madden also has an Ugg-inspired boot, that you can make custom on their website. But I tried them on at Macy’s and the material on the inside just doesn’t compare. I am excited about getting me a pair, so please write about how wonderful they are after you make your purchase, maybe that will motivate me to get out and get mine!
I think at some point you have to bite the bullet and put comfort first, especially if you have bunions..ouch. I have one pair of Uggs; have had them for four years and can’t wait to pull them out of my dusty closet and put them on my achy feet.
Yea for Uggs, boo for Uggs with bare legs and short skirts.

Sometimes one must sacrifice fashion for comfort! I bought my 1st pair of Ugg-a-likes at JCP for well under $50 and fell instantly in love. Honestly, I can’t tell what the difference is between the real & the fake. Besides, I’m not too fond of the UGG label on the back of the boot anyway, hahaha.
Viva la Ugg! or rather the Ugg-a-like!
i live in MI and i’m back in school so for me, comfort and warmth are important! i own a pair of sand UGGs and a pair of pink tall UGGs which i have retired to in-house use only because they are a bit loud. but let me tell you, you can’t beat them in MI weather. if you get a pair, get the UGG waterproofing spray (i bought mine at zappos.com). it works like a dream and all i need to do is use a suede brush once in awhile to freshen them up.
“Ugg-a-likes”..... I love it… Don’t be surprise if you see me use that phrase..
I know they’re ugly- but I’ve got them and I LOVE them. Mine are a much less obvious style though- most people are surprised to hear they are uggs. They have smooth, leather on the exterior- but the same delicious, soft, ugg-ness inside. I think they were called Brooklyn or something like that. So comfortable, so warm, and frankly in New England- you just have to give in to that in the winter. You enjoy those! :)
What’s wrong with them! i think they are cute and they keep your feet nice and toasty—all you haters are just jealous!
No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
Uggs just make me shudder.
You are"the” fashionista, so anything you desire to wear that won’t get you arrested is in season anytime. Come on now, don’t allow what others deem as fashionably appropriate to determine your personal sense of style. With so many pair being sold daily, there is obviously a market. I for one still love clogs. Yep, that’s what I said. Old fasioned dutch-like shoes, and I wear them with pride.
Seems like this is really a decision about weighing fashion against function. Speaking fashion-wise I say NOOOO! I just don’t think they’re attractive and they don’t even translate to the “so ugly they’re cute” category. However, functionally they do appear very comfortable and warm. Because I live in a desert climate, warmth isn’t something I need to consider much. What really turned me off was seeing girls here wearing them with short denim skirts and tank tops @ the height of the UGG craze. Just silly trend-following for sure. So that said, I say go for it if you REALLY want them and I’m sure you’ll put a very stylish Budget Fashionista spin on them.
Sierra Trading Post (an outlet catalog) also has good deals on Uggs from time to time. I admit it, I own a pair, and between those and my Merrill fleece lined clogs, I am set for the winter. They are so warm and comfortable-although if the weather stays this way, I will be rockin’ my flip flops all the way to Christmas, and I live in NYC!
Lots of people secretly wear uggs in private. I have a pair I put on in the winter and lounge around doing chores/errands in.
they are great for the snow but please please please dont wear them to fashion week
I have a pair of pink Uggs that I got for $36 at TJ Maxx (hence why I have pink) But I live in Michigan and they are so WARM and are so comfortable its like walking on clouds lol!!! I say get them! And as long as you know you’re fierce who cares what everyone else thinks!!!
I think Uggs are so ugly they’re cute. I had a pair from American Eagle that I called my “f-uggs” because they’re fake Uggs and also they’re kind of “fugly” haha. I threw them out because they had a lot of wear and tear on them and my famiy and bf hated them. I secretly want another pair though…
I voted yes, simply because they’re just so comfortable. I have a pair that I wear when it snows, or when it’s cold and rainy and I want to be warm and comfy. So fashion statement, no. Warm and comfy, yes.
You should try BearPaw boots. They’re soft and comfy on the inside, they look nice, and they’re much, much cheaper than Uggs.
I think uggs should be used for its purpose to keep you warm in the winter. They should not be worn in the fall or the spring and definitely should NOT be worn in the summer with jersey knit dresses
.
Since I live in an area that has cold, miserable winters, I totally understand the desire to have Uggs!! I have to agree with not wearing them to fashion week though! Save them for the weekends with your jeans and big, warm sweaters!
I haven’t read the other comments yet but my feeling is you probably don’t want to wear the Uggs to fashion week. Otherwise, I think they are OK—sort of—- for certain situations, probably involving snow, a cloudy sky, and errands. I just bought a fake pair from Target and am going to exchange for another color. I live in Salt Lake so people still wear them here but ONLY in the fall and winter, and mostly with jeans, never with a dress. I have grappled with this privately and feel for certain situations I just want my feet to be warm, period.
I don’t hate Uggs as much as I hate Crocs. I think Uggs would be ok if they were just worn for cold weather. I personally don’t have any, but if we have another winter here in Seattle like we did last year, then I might reconsider. They do look comfy - I’ll admit that!
