This dress combines two of the biggest trends on the runway for Fall 2007- the bubble hem (didn’t that flop in Fall ‘05?) and the trapeze dress.
Ella Moss Silk Trapeze Dress, $240.00
My thoughts: This look will be very hard for a regular woman like myself to pull off. Adding all that volume to your frame only works if you have virtually no frame to begin with. Also in order for it to drape well, it must be constructed well and made of good materials- which won’t happen in the mass market versions.

Great! If you’re under the age of 2.
Tired, boring, seen-it-all-before.
Hello? Something new? Anyone???
I kinda like it… it would need to be just a tad longer. I think if you are well-proportioned and tall, you can carry off this look. The key is to have great legs!
This sort of thing makes me so mad! Why can’t they make beautiful, curve-hugging dresses for the 80% of the population that wears them? Honestly, being large chested makes me feel like I have to go to Wet Seal or something as all of these swingy trapeze dresses breeze by on size 2s. I love the dress, but I would look beyond ridiculous in it.
Heck no!!!
Well, unless you’re pregnant this fall, in which case it’s lovely, but you might want to wear some leggings or tights.
No, no, and no. Unless you’re under 18 and under 100 lbs, this dress will make you look like a preggo Oompa Loompa. In fact, even if you’re skinny enough to pull it off, it’s really quite ugly.
Oh my God!!!!!! Nay! Nay! Nay! With a captital N!
That thing looks hideous, it’s like she was an overweight woman who was liposuctioned half way to death.
I love for nay. I tried on a similiar dress from bebe this fall. I really, really wanted to like the dress…but, to quote my ever-blunt boyfriend, “you look like you’re pregnant.”
I’m skinny with a flat belly and an hourglass figure…pulling off dresses is normally a breeze for me. This style manages to make me look both ridiculously young AND pregnant—in a bad way.
(however, I can see this being a fun alternative to maternity wear)
I absolutely love this shape but I’ve found out the hard way that if you’re busty you can’t wear it. I am a size 6 or 8 women’s with a D cup, and this kind of shape makes me look even bustier and pregnant. I have one dress/top like this that I manage to wear by cinching the waist with a belt . . .
Works if you are 5 years old.
We’ll see it over skinny jeans or leggings, and it will look like maternity wear.
I would like it if it weren’t for the bubble part. I hate bubble skirts and dresses. I just think it looks weird.
Nay- though it does look pretty comfortable! But not a flattering look particularly.
That’s going to be a nay. Anything so short I’d be afraid to leave the house lest I be caught in a draft is a big nay.
i agree with Kathryn……..this dress would definitely look best on a more Twiggy-esque girl. anyone with more curves would probably end up looking heavier than they really are.
Nay, nay and NAY! I thought that this look was done, only about 2% of the population could pull off this look. The circus tent look is not for me!
Definitely a nay. It looks like a sewing project gone bad.
I have to say nay unless your a size 00!!!!!
I have to say nay unless your a size 00!!!!!
Only looks good on the little Russian girls who are modeling this year. Excellent article in Wall Street Journal recently concerning the Russian models & their narrow hips & shoulders which are just right for a shape like this.
NO! It looks like a potato sack. Why would anyone want to wear a huge bag?
I’d say a nay on this one if you have boobs of any sort. It reminds me of the old style maternity dresses my mom was stuck wearing, so I’ll have to say I won’t wear this.
Absolutely not! It reminds me of the summer nghtgown I used to wear in elementary school, definitely not something to be worn out in public. Frankly, I think it looks bad even on the model!
even on the model shown, it doesn’t *do* anything for her, she could be wearing a garbage sack and would look no worse..
I’d wear it under the following circumstances: 1. Longer – below the knee; I have cute panties, but they’re for MY pleasure, not the world’s. 2. Detailing around the bust – some darts, or something. I have shape. I am a woman. I will look like a woman, no matter how fashionable it is to brush upon pedophilia. 3. This isn’t a look for everyone – it’s the kind of thing that would work well with handmade knit tights (not machine made) and funky boots. Also, pink hair.
I say NAY!NAY! To me this looks like a baby doll dress. It’s not an attractive dress even for the skinny minny’s out there for them it just hangs there, not one of the most fashionable or impressive dresses I have seen.
Honestly, if you can pull it off, this looks really really chic. I love it, and with low key acessories, it’s a really easy outfit.
OMG NO NO NO NO NO. The bubble hem is (1) not new, (2) not flattering, and (3) not GOOD!!! Trapeze shape is fine, and most can wear it—I just bought a trapeze shaped coat at Target in their Go International line, and I love it. I’m a size 10-12 and it works. But the combination of bubble AND trapeze = UGGA BUGGA!
Trapeze dress yes, bubble hem no. If you read Mrs. Exeter in the Feb issue they are very candid on this point. They say men hate this look, but if you work in some crazy fashion office, go for it. This is exactly right. I wear mine when my boyfriend is out of town.
This is truly ugly and I can’t imagine anyone in the “real” work world or otherwise looking good in this. Ugh…
It’s great if you can pull it off, and VERY comfy. They have longer types, but going below the knee makes it a mu-mu, so I wouldn’t bother looking. I just got one and LOVE it, but I have to avoid jumping as it does show off my panties (I figured this out in my own house, not in public, thank god!)
