Working at the Mall Can Lead to Bigger Things

What: Execs at your favorite retail establishments are raking in the big bucks.

What the fashion heads say: From WWD: “Tougher disclosure rules on executive compensation required by the Securities and Exchange Commission haven’t exactly made things clearer for investors and shareholders…. One thing is clear, though: Executives at retailers that performed well in 2006 were certainly well paid.”.

What I say: I find it VERY interesting that eight of the top ten highest paid executives in the retail industry worked for mall-based and discount based retailers. Goes to show you, that the real money is in saving people money.

Still, you would think execs at companies like Saks or LVMH (parent company of Louis Vuitton) to top the list, but Saks execs rank below the dude from Sears and LVMH execs didn’t even make the list.

are you sure this list was not limited to Americans? after all the SEC only governs American companies. the ceo of LVMH Moet Hennesey is the 7th richest man in the world and worth billions.

You know, I am not surprised by that at all. Stores like target, walmart, and sears pay their execs more because they are paying their employees less. When you work for upscale private chain stores you work on commission and they more than likely only have a max of five people working in their stores.
