What: Come Spring of 2012, Vera Wang will release a mass market cosmetics line exclusively for Kohl’s department stores and online at kohls.com. Wang’s new lines will be comprised of make-up, bath, body and skincare products.
“The value-oriented American chain department store has been carrying the designer’s Simply Vera Vera Wang merchandise, comprising women’s apparel, intimates, sleepwear, handbags, jewelry, footwear, bedding and bath, since 2007…This will be Wang’s first foray into the cosmetics business though she has previously rolled out fragrances for department store distribution …Wang has been gradually repositioning herself as an affordable, mass market label.”
What We Say: It’s not surprising that Wang, who has officially stopped designing her own luxury bridesmaid line, is rolling out more to the mass markets; after all, she makes more money this way. Though we’ve loved her bridal collection for David’s Bridal, and we’ve generally been okay with Simply Vera, her other Kohl’s line, it should be interesting to see Wang do make-up — it seems every celeb and their mothers take a stab at cosmetics at some point. Though the ability to design chic and affordable clothing doesn’t necessarily translate into cosmetics, we know that Wang is a not only a talented designer, but she’s a smart businesswoman as well. after all, so we have hope!
