I love a good meatball sub. It’s one of those sandwiches I like to order out, no matter how much that little voice in my head tells me I could make it at home for a fraction of the price.
Finally, I decided to try making the subs at home. I found that it couldn’t be easier to make, and is so much cheaper than takeout or eating it in a restaurant.
For a gourmet touch, rub raw garlic on the sub buns before toasting, then top with fresh basil leaves.
2 Sub buns
meatballs (I cheated and used Honeysuckle Fresh Italian Style Turkey Meatballs)
16 oz jar marinara sauce
1 yellow pepper, chopped
1 lb. shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese
Heat meatballs on medium heat in sauce and peppers. Meanwhile, toast bread. Divide meatballs and sauce among sub buns, top with marinara, peppers and cheese, and serve.
