Teatox: The New Recipe for Body Beauty?

Anyone with an Instagram account has seen them. The bronzed beauties, seemingly all from Australia, looking effortlessly fit, fabulous and practically glowing.

And what’s in the hand of these modele-sque social media mavens? A cup of tea.

While most of us are starting our mornings groggily reaching for the espresso, these mystical creatures are already up — and flawless, might we add — coyly smizing with steeping mugs of a self-proclaimed miracle worker. Welcome to the teatox era.

Post boutique fitness class and juice cleanse trends, we’ve entered into a time where teas are the supposed solution to all of our swimsuit problems. It’s easy to swept up in the fantasy of a “skinny tea,” but to get realistic results, you’ve gotta know what you’re really in for.

Like anything, it’s not a cure-all. More of a quick fix, these loose or bagged teas are suggested (like any diet) to be a supplement to healthy nutrition and regular exercise. You won’t see an overnight transformation, and you may not even see that grand of a transformation. But as someone who has given the trend a go, I can say that I did see some progress.

What is Teatox

Assortment of teas

Most teas in the detox category have an ingredient that acts as an appetite suppressant. Plus, like a typical tea, these teas also give you energy and boost your metabolism.

In my own experience, the teas served as a great way to start off my morning. Throughout the day, they curbed any interest in additional snacking. The nice thing about a teatox is that — unlike a juice cleanse — you’re not cutting any actual meals. Some teas even have an added colon cleanse effect, which helps flush your system out and aids in indigestion.

You can also find detox teas that suit your commitment level. Want a tea that’ll give you a little boost when you’re feeling bloated or crappy? No problem. Looking for a teatox plan that you can stick to for two or three weeks? It’s out there. You’ll find teatox options for every lifestyle and budget.

Why Try Teatox

I use the teatox as the opportunity to refresh and restart, usually twice a year. It’s the perfect way to ease myself back onto the healthy choices track, cutting things like sugary soda or other caffeines that the tea might replace in the morning or throughout the day.

It helps to beat bloat. And, even if it’s only really water weight you’re losing, it can be enough to temporarily tighten things up for a special occasion. You might even see a little more muscle definition and toning. Some teatoxes also come with helpful meal planning resources, guiding you onto a healthier dining path and allowing you to see results faster.

Just remember that teatox is no silver bullet. Like anything else, including exercise: you won’t see much change if you’re chasing teatox with bad dietary choices.

Where to Get Teatox

I have a bit of an Aussie-obsession, but plenty of teatoxes are made and available right here in the States. Amazon is the perfect place to compare prices, read reviews and learn more about what makes each tea unique.

Take the extra step of checking with your physician too — that’s standard advice for anyone who’s considering a diet or exercise change.
Do you have a teatox success (or otherwise) story to share? Leave a comment and let us know.
