What: Remember Target’s much talked about collab with designer Anna Sui? You know, the one inspired by the TV show “Gossip Girl?” Yeah, that one. Well, Target’s higher ups may be starting to backpedal a little. According to reports, the retailer may have pulled out of an opportunity to feature the clothes in the CW show, but its allegedly thinking of distancing itself from the concept entirely. Apparently, “Gossip Girl” may be a little bit too edgy.
What They Say:
One of Target’s top executives got nervous about being that closely associated with the show, given the [debauchery] its characters get into,” says an on-the-set source. For example, Blake Lively’s character, Serena, killed a man, and most of the characters frequently get wasted, do drugs and have promiscuous sex.
What We Say: We really don’t care what Target calls the line, or says it’s inspired by - not like the cat’s not already out of the bag. If anything, we appreciate it when fashion’s more about the, well, fashion, rather than pop culture. Regardless, it’s a bit too late for Target to get on its moral high horse now- don’t you think? Maybe the retailer’s just trying to drum up more publicity for the line, which is set to launch (for a limited time) this September.

I admire Target for sticking with MORALES. There isn’t much of that going around these days when anything goes!
