Patchwork means different things to different people, and in the case of the patchwork purse, there seems to be room for interpretation. From the celeb end, it seems to mean diamond patchwork pattern (a more sophisticated take, natch), while much of what we see from retailers is more traditional patchwork (meaning, of course, patches of coordinating and/or contrasting materials and fabrics) like this Marisol Tote from Payless. We're not overwhelmed, but the patchwork handbag can be cute and add interest to an otherwise basic outfit. Some cautions:
Don’t look like Holly Hobby. Let your patchwork purse do the talking and pair it with classic pieces and versatile basics -- no matching prairie skirt and/or head kerchief. We’re thinking it would look great alongside a neutral tunic, dark denim, and some funky wedge sandals, for example.
One patchwork item per ensemble, please. Forget the patchwork shorts and patchwork jacket -- you want to look fun and trendy, not like a giant quilt.
Casual occasions only. Unless it’s a patchwork python clutch (and we suppose it could be -- check out this hot seller at Nine West), leave it at home for dressy events. But you knew that.
