Lately, it seems like the details are all about texture, which, quite frankly, is a nice change of pace from the glitzy (and sometimes tacky) sequin and gemstone embellishments of previous seasons. Which brings us to the trend at hand—braiding. We’re not sure of the longevity here, so we are recommending that you skip the braided faux-suede halter vest (no, we haven’t actually seen one of these) and going instead with a budget friendly accent to compliment your current wardrobe:
~ A colored sandal to wear with bermudas or a full cotton skirt: Women’s Suede Toe Strap Sandals, $19.50, Old Navy
~ A slim colored belt, to wear with jeans or a tunic top: Skinny Link Belt, $24.50, Gap
~ A braid-accented tote, to, well, carry your stuff: Braided Handle Tote Bag, $39.99, Chadwicks

I’m not quite settling into this trend…not just yet. Braided belts and dress straps just make the overall look bulky and knobby. This look would great in a spaghetti western ensemble, but, honestly, for city slickers like yours truly, a svelte, naturally flowing look is more digestible in an everyday fashionista kind of way.
It’s a Paul Smith Swirl Coin Purse from 2005. Mind you though—-it wasn’t budget friendly then, nor is it now, but it’s got a kick and has some iconic value. And that didn’t cost me a penny.
cheapischic I love the handbag in your avatar.. who is it by?
