Let’s face it.. ashy skin and cold weather go together like Britney and Kevin. If the cold weather has your skin looking dull and dry, try some of these tips and products to restore moisture and a healthy glow to your entire body.

For your face:

If you generally have oily skin, try an oil-free moisturizer that controls shine while replenishing your skin’s water levels.Olay Complete UV Defense Moisture Lotion SPF 15, Combination/Oil ($7.99 to $9.87 at local drugstores), provides both moisturize and sun protection without the oily build up.

If your skin tends to be normal, in that you’re not too dry and not too oily, use a slightly heavier moisturizer than you’d generally use, to ensure you won’t be plagued by flaky skin. Try Oil of Olay Original Active Hydrating Beauty Fluid for Normal Skin (local drugstores or $6.99 at walgreens.com), which penetrates the skin immediately and keeps moisturizing all day.

Cetaphil Beauty Newsletter: Glow Baby GlowFor skin that’s typically dry, use an emollient-packed moisturizer that restores lipids while smoothing and lubricating rough skin. The combination of water and oil in the lotion provides a richer, heavier formula than most moisturizers. Cetaphil (local drugstores or $10.87 at drugstore.com) does just that, and is free of irritants that may bother sensitive skin. I’m also a big fan of

Don’t forget about your lips! There’s several great budget products that provides much needed moisture to your lips, including good old Carmex and trusty Chapstick. Neutrogena’s Lip Moisturizer ($2.99 at walgreens.com ) softens, smoothes and protects dry, chapped lips without the waxy feel.

For your body:Eucerin Beauty Newsletter: Glow Baby Glow

Your arms, legs and other appendages don’t suffer like your face does in the winter months. However, be sure to keep them extra-moisturized with a heavy lotion, such as Eucerin. A virtual miracle cream, it solves any skin problem and leaves you feeling hydrated, not greasy. Try Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion, which exfoliates as it moisturizes. It’s a little pricier than your average body lotion, but it’s effective in helping you avoid an “Ash Attack”. (local drugstores and $7.59 at trustedbeauty.com)

There’s been much discussion on TBF about the role of Vaseline in keeping your skin moisturized during the winter months. Personally, I’m still a BIG fan of Vaseline because my skin becomes so dry that I could write my next book on my leg. Here’s the deal: if you’re concerned about using Vaseline, check with your dermatologist before apply it to your skin.

As general rules, be sure to cleanse skin gently during the cooler, less-humid months, with warm (not hot) water and a mild cleanser with added lotion or moisturizer like Dove’s Body Wash, Deep Moisture Beauty Newsletter: Glow Baby Glow ($7.46 at drugstore.com Beauty Newsletter: Glow Baby Glow) or Olay’s Body Wash Plus Body Butter Ribbons Beauty Newsletter: Glow Baby Glow ($6.49 at drugstore.com Beauty Newsletter: Glow Baby Glow width="1"/>). And don’t forget your sunscreen! Even on gray days, it’s important to stay protected from harmful rays. Trust me – your skin will thank you someday.
