Shopping Burns Lots of Calories

What: Just as online shopping starts to hit its stride, we get news like this:¬† the walking around and standing required to shop¬† (offline, of course) burns 48,000 calories a year. For a gal on a 2,000-calorie diet, that’s 24 days worth of food!

What They Say:

The study, which polled 3,000 women, also found that 52 percent of respondents reportedly felt more fatigued after a day of shopping than after a trip to the gym. Seven out of 10 women also reportedly claimed to be completely exhausted after shopping.

What We Say: While this form of exercise certainly isn’t healthy on the pocketbook, neither is a gym membership. Would a study like this encourage you to leave the house, rather than get on the Internet, to shop?

I love shopping at the mall, even if it’s just window shopping. You get to see what others are wearing and touch the items you like. While I enjoy shopping online, I get a thrill out of a day of shopping offline as well. Women are exhausted from shopping because of all the trying on and squealing and jumping up & down when something completely fabulous goes on sale….that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. :-)

Mall walking is a great inducement to WALK & do some shopping (mostly of the window variety) at the same time. I ALSO gather my deals and coupons (like freebies at Sephora and elsewhere) which I get mostly online to redeem at the mall & induce me to WALK. Last visit I got a pearl bracelet from a jewelry store, the Sephora sample & some hand sanitizer!
